Mt Cootha Botanical Gardens boast a range of sights and sounds for your Brisbane kids. Entry is free 7 days a week to explore the 52 hectares on display. The best part about Mount Cootha is that if your kids fall asleep on the way then you have the option to witness the beauty of the gardens from your vehicle during weekdays 8.00am-400pm.
With plenty of shaded and sheltered areas Mount Coot tha is an ideal picnic spot while you get to admire the stunning landscapes. Also on offer is a licensed restaurant and cafe on site.
First opened in 1976 the diverse gardens leave plenty of bird and animal watching for your Brisbane kids to do. Perfect opportunity to drag out the Christmas binoculars and put them to good use. An amazing place to view the wildlife in particular is in the Lagoon and Bamboo Grove. Your Brisbane kids have the opportunity to see a variety of birds such as Egrets & pacific black ducks, lizards like Eastern Water Dragons, turtles including short necked turtles, saw shelled turtles and eels. This will keep their eyes alert and ready to explore!
A great activity idea is to trigger your Brisbane Kids sense of smell take a look at the fragrant flower and herb garden. Using gentle hands your kids are also encouraged to rub the leaves. You could extend this further by purchasing some of the herbs on the way home, cooking with them and linking them back to the visit.

Ive never understood why they don’t put a playground somewhere there. Would just make it that much better for kids, a morning of walking around then some play. My 4yo enjoyed looking a everything but was left a little disappointed by the lack of play equipment
