DESCRIPTION:WONDER: Cloud Play @ HOTA\nWONDER 2025 delivers its biggest and boldest artwork to date with CLOUD PLAY by internationally renowned artist Patrick Shearn of Poetic Kinetics. Presented exclusively in Australia\, this breathtaking kinetic sculpture is the centrepiece of this year’s festival and is on display at HOTA’s Outdoor Stage from 31st May to 13th July. \nSpanning 530 square metres\, CLOUD PLAY floats gracefully in the air\, evoking the fluid formations of a murmuration of birds or a school of fish. The sculpture moves with the wind\, serving as a mesmerising reminder of nature’s presence. Crafted from tens of thousands of shimmering ribbons\, the artwork incorporates personal reflections gathered from the Gold Coast community during the Sky Ribbons project in March. Each ribbon carries a message completing the sentence\, “I’m grateful to call the Gold Coast home because…”\, creating a dynamic expression of local gratitude and identity. \nAccompanying the visual experience is an original soundscape blending natural sounds with music and cultural knowledge. Created by Saltwater man Lann Levinge\, operatic baritone Jose Carbo\, and celebrated didgeridoo artist William Barton\, the soundscape adds depth and atmosphere to the installation. \nAfter dark\, CLOUD PLAY transforms as IKONIX illuminates the sculpture with light displays that respond to real-time wind data\, bringing the ribbons to life in a symphony of movement and colour. \nThis captivating installation is part of a broader program of free and ticketed events under WONDER\, running from Saturday 31st May to Saturday 21st June. DESCRIPTION:RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre Sunday Open Days\nShowcasing the incredible history of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF)\, the Heritage Centre has displays that include Sabre and Mirage fighter jets\, a flawless WWII Jeep\, Sioux and Iroquois helicopters and a Caribou airlifter. The museum pays particular attention to the history of aviation at the RAAF Amberley base and the RAAF’s role in South East Queensland in war and peace time. The ever-growing historical collection is housed in two aircraft hangars at the RAAF Amberley base and does change from time to time\, as exhibits are restored and brought in or returned after a loan period. \nA group of passionate reservists and volunteers are on hand to guide visitors through the RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre’s displays\, passing on fascinating stories and a priceless educational experience with every visit. Every single one of these enthusiasts is involved in the research\, restoration and display of the aircraft and the items that make up the collection. One of the best things about the displays at the Heritage Centre is that you can touch almost everything. There’s even the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of an F-111. Photos are always welcome and highly encouraged within the display hangars\, so your Brisbane Kids can capture their aviation adventures when you visit. \nThe RAAF Amberley Heritage Centre is open 9am to 3pm\, Tuesdays\, Thursdays\, and the third Sunday of every month (excluding December). \nEntry requirements:\nAmberley Heritage Centre is located on RAAF Base Amberley. Friendly volunteers will greet you on the platform and help you board the train as well as share their are full of local knowledge and their passion for their beloved railway with you.  \nThe 15 minute journey allows you to sit back and breathe in the fresh country air and watch the horses in the paddocks as you drive by (alongside around 300 metres of housing development) \nThere is a small display room on the platform which you can wander around and learn more about the historical trains and carriages. There are also other long-standing carriages and tracks dotted around the grounds which are a reminder of a bygone era. \nTickets for the round-trip train ride can be purchased from the Ticket Office\, situated in the middle of the platform. Cold drinks and a variety of train books and memorabilia are available for purchase from the office. \n\nThe Woodford Railway Heritage Train Rides\nWhen: The Woodford Railway runs Heritage Train rides on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of each month. Rides starting at 10am and running until 3pm (generally stopping between 12:45 – 1.30pm for lunch). Guests can also meet friendly animals from Old MacDonald’s Travelling Farm\, where kids are encouraged to pat and interact. \nMr Magic will be dazzling audiences with his illusions – can anyone figure out how he does it? Meanwhile\, the Veteran and Vintage Vehicle Club will have their stunning collection on display\, and all historical exhibits throughout the centre will be open for exploration. \nFamilies can enjoy a scenic ride on the Trackless Train and take a short journey on a Heritage Bus. Enthusiasts of mechanical history will appreciate the collection of stationary engines\, with passionate owners on hand to share their knowledge. \nLive entertainment includes interactive bush dancing and singalongs with the Ridgee Didge Bush Band\, sure to get feet tapping and kids moving. The mobile Police Beat team will also be on site to chat with visitors and share helpful resources. \nChildren can enjoy old-fashioned games and take part in free craft and activity stations\, while parents browse the variety of stalls offering handmade items\, local treats\, and more. The Cooneana Blacksmiths will be at work at their forges\, demonstrating their craftsmanship throughout the day. \nThe Ipswich Genealogical Society\, Historical Motorcycle Club of Queensland\, and the Spinners\, Weavers\, Fibre Artisans of Ipswich will all be open and eager to share their knowledge and creativity with visitors. \nA sausage sizzle\, coffee\, tea\, cake and biscuits will be available for purchase throughout the day. \nBookings can be made online or tickets can be purchased at the gate.
