SUMMARY:Make\, Believe\, Magic
DESCRIPTION:The Worlds of The Jim Henson Company\nTo mark 70 years of The Jim Henson Company\, QAGOMA in Brisbane is opening a huge exhibition all about how the magic actually gets made. Founded by Jim and Jane Henson in 1955\, the company gave us the Muppets\, Sesame Street\, Fraggle Rock\, The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth\, and they are still leading the way in puppetry today. \nWhat kids will see\nHundreds of objects fill the space\, including real puppets\, animatronic creatures\, props\, costumes\, original drawings and clips from the screen. Kids get to see the journey from hand-made puppets right through to today’s animatronics and digital wizardry\, and learn how creature designers dream up a character from scratch. \nThe showstopper is a world first. The Great Hall set from the Emmy winning series Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock has been recreated so families can step behind the scenes onto a working puppeteer’s film set. \nGood to know \nKids under 5 get in free and don’t need a ticket\nTicket categories cover children 5 to 12\, youth 13 to 25\, adults\, concession and QAGOMA members\nTickets are through QTIX\, the official ticketing service. Be careful with resellers \nGOMA is fully accessible and pram friendly \nPlan your visit\nWhere: GOMA\, Stanley Place\, South Brisbane\nWhen: Opens 12 September 2026 (Until 18th April)\nTickets: Via QTIX\nAges: Great for all ages\, especially anyone who has ever loved a Muppet \nGet tickets \nOrganised by QAGOMA in collaboration with The Jim Henson Company\, and opening in association with Brisbane Festival.

SUMMARY:The Night Sky exhibition at Landsborough Museum
DESCRIPTION:Uncover how artificial light reshapes our natural environment at The Night Sky exhibition at Landsborough Museum\, running from October 2026 to February 2027. Just an hour north of Brisbane\, local families can explore interactive displays on light pollution\, dark sky conservation\, and simple steps to protect our evening skies. \nThe Night Sky exhibition at Landsborough Museum\nThe Night Sky exhibition at Landsborough Museum looks at the important role darkness plays in our lives and the natural world. As artificial light increasingly brightens our nights\, the exhibition shows how light pollution affects wildlife\, ecosystems and our long connection to the night. \nVisitors can learn about the science behind our shrinking night skies\, the global Dark Skies movement and the Sunshine Coast’s new Dark Sky Reserve in the hinterland. Interactive displays and local stories encourage people to look up\, switch off and be more aware of the dark. \nIt’s a great reason to make the trip north from Brisbane\, with Landsborough about an hour’s drive up the Bruce Highway. Visitors leave with practical ideas for reducing light pollution and protecting the night sky for future generations. \nEntry is free\, and group bookings are preferred. The exhibition can be viewed during the museum’s opening hours. Visitors with a photo of the Sunshine Coast night sky can share it for a chance to be featured in a community digital display within the exhibition. \nPlan your visit\nWhen: Friday 2nd October 2026 to Saturday 20th February 2027 \nWhere: Landsborough Museum\, 4 Maleny Street\, Landsborough 4550 \nMore information here

Brisbane families can explore an extraordinary festive gathering filled with crystals\, handmade artisan gifts\, and fantasy treasures\, offering kids and parents a magical\, free holiday shopping experience like no other. \nThe Witches Market Christmas Edition at Petrie\nThe Witches Market returns to Petrie for its 6th enchanted year\, celebrating the magic of the festive season and honouring both the Christmas traditions of Australia and the ancient spirit of Yule\, celebrated by our Northern Hemisphere cousins. \nStep into a world of wonder where witches\, pagans\, mystics\, artists\, creators and seekers gather to share their crafts\, knowledge and magic. Best of all\, entry is completely free! \nWhat you’ll find \nBrowse a treasure trove of unique and unusual finds\, including handmade pagan and witchcraft supplies\, crystals\, gemstones and fossils\, candles\, incense and ritual tools\, gothic\, fantasy and alternative gifts\, artisan crafts and jewellery\, taxidermy\, oddities and curiosities\, and books\, artwork and spiritual treasures. There are plenty of one-of-a-kind items you won’t find in mainstream stores. Whether you’re searching for the perfect Yule gift\, an unusual Christmas present or something delightfully strange for yourself\, there’s magic waiting around every corner. \nYule and the origins of Christmas \nIn the Southern Hemisphere\, Yule is traditionally celebrated in June\, and a dedicated Yule market was held earlier this year on the Fraser Coast. This event is a chance to explore the fascinating origins of many Christmas traditions and how ancient Yule customs have influenced the festive season we know today. \nHistorically\, Yule (also known as Jul\, Jól or Joulu) was a winter festival celebrated by Germanic peoples\, and it later became intertwined with Christmas during the Christianisation of Europe. Scholars have linked the ancient celebrations to traditions surrounding Odin\, the Wild Hunt and the Anglo-Saxon Mōdraniht\, or “Mothers’ Night”. \nMany beloved festive customs are believed to have roots in these older Yule celebrations\, including the Yule log\, the Yule goat\, the Yule boar\, traditional Yule singing\, and community feasting and celebration. Everyone is encouraged to explore the history for themselves and discover the rich tapestry of traditions that have shaped modern Christmas celebrations. \nAbout The Witches Market \nThe Witches Market is the original and longest-running market of its kind in South East Queensland\, created by and operating within the Pagan community for the Pagan community and its supporters. Whether you’re Pagan\, spiritual\, alternative\, curious or simply looking for a truly unique day out\, come and experience the magic. \nFree entry. Family friendly. Unique shopping. Magical community. Come for the magic.
