DESCRIPTION:IndigiScape’s Environment and Community Fair\nRedland City Council’s Environment and Community Fair at IndigiScapes\nIn celebration of United Nations (UN) World Environment Day \nRedland City Council is proud to present its annual Environment and Community Fair at IndigiScapes—a free family-friendly celebration of nature\, culture and sustainability\, held in honour of UN World Environment Day. This vibrant community event promises a full day of learning\, inspiration\, entertainment and connection with nature. \nSpecial Guests and Speakers\nRenowned ABC Gardening Australia presenter and native landscape specialist Clarence Slockee\, a Bundjalung man from northern NSW\, will appear alongside popular wildlife host Ranger Stacey for an interactive Q&A session. Clarence\, who also serves as Education Officer at the Sydney Botanic Gardens\, brings a deep understanding of bush tucker and Aboriginal culture. He will also lead a workshop focused on native edible plants and bush food. \nThe official opening ceremony will feature a Welcome to Country\, Smoking Ceremony\, and traditional dance and didgeridoo performance by Quandamooka man Jahlow Walker and the Yulu Burri-Ba Dancers. Ranger Stacey will host a wildlife presentation with Ben Bawdin and friends from D’Aguilar Wildlife. \nOther featured speakers include: \n\nDr Christina Zdenek\, wildlife scientist from the University of Queensland and co-owner of the Australian Reptile Academy\, who will speak about reptiles.\nDeborah Metters\, ecologist and birding expert\, who will guide an interactive “Nature’s Wildlife Calling” session.\nKatie Barton-Harvey from Boomerang Alliance\, who will discuss the UN’s 2025 theme\, Ending Plastic Pollution\, and share insights on reducing waste.\nThe Urban Bee Co. team will present a beginner’s guide to native bees and explore the role of “power pollinators” like bats\, birds and bees.\n\nGuests can also meet Kieron Douglass\, an ultra runner\, conservationist and mental health advocate\, who will share his story and environmental message. \nFamily-Friendly Nature Activities\nThe Fair offers hands-on fun for all ages with: \n\nEco-friendly nature activities and education\nWildlife encounters\nNative bee workshops\, hive exploration\, honey pressing and seed ball making\n‘Great Paper Reef’ art installation with Art for Earthlings\nWeed weaving circle with Wanda\nPaper pot rolling and seed sowing with Redland Organic Growers Inc.\nDamper on a stick cooked over coals\nMessy play with Gumtree Kids\nFlora and fauna face art with Fairy Raine\nBush walks and a threatened species scavenger hunt\nStorytime and games with the Redland Libraries’ First Five Forever literacy team\n\nEntertainment\nBay FM’s Tony Tranter and the G’day It’s Saturday team will broadcast live from the event. Visitors can enjoy live music in the gardens\, roving fungi maidens\, an acrobatic ‘acro’-bat\, and energetic performances from Hello Africa. Gubbi Gubbi/Ugarapul dancer Soraya Fewquandie-Scott will deliver three powerful dance performances throughout the day\, blending traditional and contemporary elements to raise cultural awareness through movement. \nEco Markets and Sustainable Living\nVisitors can explore a wide range of eco-friendly stalls along the Botanic Garden Eco Market Lane\, offering sustainable products\, artisan produce and handmade treasures. The popular Suitcase Rummage will return\, giving thrifters a chance to uncover unique vintage finds. \nEnvironmental Education and Council Initiatives\nLearn about local conservation efforts through displays and workshops from: \n\nCouncil’s Environmental Partnerships\, Bushcare and Wildlife teams\nWaste Warriors and the “Let’s Get It Sorted” campaign\nTangalooma EcoMarines and Humpbacks and Highways\nWaterbug discovery with Watergum\nReWildYou survival and bush skills workshops\n\nQuiet Nature Space and Native Nursery\nFor visitors seeking a peaceful retreat\, the on-site theatrette will feature a digital exhibition of Redlands Coast flora and fauna photography. The IndigiCafe\, local produce stalls and food vans will offer a variety of tasty options throughout the day.
