DESCRIPTION:The Premier’s Reading Challenge 2026\nThe Premier’s Reading Challenge champions reading with the goal of encouraging young Queenslanders to read for pleasure and learning\, to improve literacy and give them a brighter future. \nIt is an annual statewide initiative for Queensland state and non-state schools and home-educated students from Prep to Year 9\, as well as children (aged up to 5 years) enrolled in an early childhood centre. \nGet involved\nKey dates\nRegistrations open: 27 April\nReading period commences for Prep to Year 9 students: 11 May\nEarly childhood participation period: 17 to 28 August\nReading period finishes for Prep to Year 9 students: 28 August\nCelebration Weeks: 2 to 13 November \nThe PRC is not a competition but a way to encourage students to develop a love of reading for life. DESCRIPTION:RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre Sunday Open Days\nShowcasing the incredible history of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF)\, the Heritage Centre has displays that include Sabre and Mirage fighter jets\, a flawless WWII Jeep\, Sioux and Iroquois helicopters and a Caribou airlifter. The museum pays particular attention to the history of aviation at the RAAF Amberley base and the RAAF’s role in South East Queensland in war and peace time. \nThe ever-growing historical collection is housed in two aircraft hangars at the RAAF Amberley base and does change from time to time\, as exhibits are restored and brought in or returned after a loan period. \nA group of passionate reservists and volunteers are on hand to guide visitors through the RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre’s displays\, passing on fascinating stories and a priceless educational experience with every visit. Every single one of these enthusiasts is involved in the research\, restoration and display of the aircraft and the items that make up the collection. \nOne of the best things about the displays at the Heritage Centre is that you can touch almost everything. There’s even the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of an F-111. Photos are always welcome and highly encouraged within the display hangars\, so your Brisbane Kids can capture their aviation adventures when you visit. \nThe RAAF Amberley Heritage Centre is open 9am to 3pm\, Thursdays\, and the usually the third Sunday of every month (excluding December & January). \nEntry requirements:\nAmberley Heritage Centre is located on RAAF Base Amberley. On arrival at the front gate\, visitors will met by one of the Heritage Centre team members. \nVisitors must bring: \n\nCopy of Online Base Induction completion email\nReservation confirmation\nPhotographic identification as recorded on your reservation confirmation (Photos of identification documents are not accepted).\n\nPets\, alcohol and firearms are prohibited on base. Registered assistance dogs are permitted upon application. \nPhotography is only permitted inside Heritage Centre precinct. \nPlan your trip\nWhen: The 2026 Sunday Open Days at this stage are: 15 February; 15 March; 19 April; 17 May; and 21 June. \nWhere: RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre\, Amberley \nCost: free.
