Whether walking the whole way or parking further away\, kids can enjoy a safer\, greener commute. \nWalk Safely to School Day 2026\nNow in its 27th year\, National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is an annual initiative that encourages all primary school students to walk and commute safely to school. Managed by the Pedestrian Council of Australia\, the day highlights the health\, safety\, transport\, and environmental benefits of walking. \nKey Objectives \nHealth: Encouraging at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily to help combat childhood obesity. \nSafety: Teaching vital road-crossing skills and reinforcing that children under 10 should always hold an adult’s hand. \nEnvironment: Reducing car dependency and traffic congestion around school zones to create cleaner air. \nTransport: Promoting the use of public transport and active travel. \nHow to Participate \nFor Families: Walk your child to school! If you live too far away\, try “Park and Walk” – park the car at least 10 minutes away from the school and walk the rest of the way. \nFor Schools: Register your school on the official website to receive promotional materials.
