This award-winning project showcases incredible collaborative creativity\, uniting 380 international embroiderers to create one extraordinary Guinness World Record garment. \nThe Red Dress exhibition\nCollaborative creativity from 380 embroiderers in 51 countries interwoven into one garment. \nThe Red Dress is an award-winning global community art project conceived by British artist Kirstie Macleod\, spanning 14 years and uniting 380 embroiderers across 51 countries into a single\, extraordinary garment. Museum of Brisbane and Warwick Art Gallery will jointly exhibit the work in a significant coup for Queensland\, marking its first ever showing in Australia. \nOriginally designed to spark conversations about identity\, the project has evolved into a powerful platform for self-expression\, amplifying marginalised voices and addressing social issues through traditional embroidery and intricate stitchwork. From 2009 to 2023\, pieces of the dress travelled the globe\, embroidered by 367 women\, 11 men and two non-binary artists from 51 countries\, among them refugees\, asylum seekers\, survivors of war\, and disadvantaged women worldwide. The project carries local resonance too\, with Brisbane connections woven throughout. \nConstructed from 87 panels of burgundy silk dupion\, the completed dress weighs 6.8kg and holds a Guinness World Record for the largest collaborative embroidery project. It is estimated to contain between one and 1.5 billion stitches\, each one weighted with personal story and signifying the enduring link between artisans\, first-time embroiderers\, and diverse audiences around the world. \nBrisbane’s AllThreads community created a detailed and highly skilled embroidery for Australia’s contribution to the global project\, capturing the country’s unique landscape\, flora and fauna. \nOn display in Australia for the first time\, textile and embroidery artists and general audiences alike are invited to marvel at the delicate details of this deeply thought-provoking work. All 141 embroiderers with commissioned contributions received compensation\, along with a share of exhibition fees and merchandise sales. Free entertainment and activities for all ages include interactive exhibits\, live performances\, roaming entertainment\, and family-friendly activities throughout the grounds. \nHeadline entertainment includes live music on the Courtyard Stage across all three days\, a Rodeo in the Main Arena on Friday evening from 5:30pm\, and Mower Races in the Main Arena on Saturday and Sunday. \nPavilions open across the weekend include Art and Craft\, Cookery\, Education\, Needlework\, Horticulture\, Floral Art\, Photography\, and Woodchop\, with exhibits and competitions running daily. This year’s experience is led by local First Nations artist Kaylah Coghill\, a Yagara/Koenpul woman from Nginila and Tjerangari\, which is Inala and Stradbroke Island. She is a direct descendant of the Yagara peoples of Magandjin\, who are the traditional custodians of Brisbane as well as the Koenpul peoples of Quandamooka\, who are the traditional custodians of the Moreton Bay region. Kaylah is a teacher aide who works in her local community of Inala. She has spent the last years raising her two children and working within the local communities of Magandjin teaching Indigenous workshops on art\, music\, language and dancing. She has also participated in many creative community and council projects in and around the Inala area\, working with Elders\, teens and young children. \nTribalLink’s Cultural Discovery Van  10am to 4pm \nStep inside the TribalLink Cultural Discovery Van – a vibrant space filled with cultural resources\, art and artefacts. Experience First Nations culture through stories\, song\, music\, dance and hands-on discovery. An immersive experience you can touch\, taste\, feel\, hear and see. \nDeadly Kindies Arts and Crafts  10am to 4pm \nGet crafty with Deadly Kindies! Presented by the Early Childhood team at the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health\, explore cultural art activities to keep your jarjum happy. There will be scratch art\, beading\, colouring in and books to enjoy. And don’t forget to add your very own cardboard hand to the Deadly Kids Community board and be a part of our everlasting legacy. \nQueensland Museum’s Dilly Bag Lab   10am to 4pm \nDilly Bag Lab is a hands-on creative workshop where people of all ages and abilities can explore the art of bag making inspired by Traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dilly bags. Participants design and create their own mini dilly bag using a mix of natural fibres – such as pandanus\, raffia and emu feathers – alongside contemporary craft materials. Once your bag is made\, you can put it to the test! How much weight can your dilly bag hold? What kinds of special items might it carry? Dilly Bag Lab blends culture\, creativity and curiosity\, offering a space to learn by making\, experimenting and discovery. \nFind Our Friends 10am to 4pm \nMeet our deadly friends – Gooril\, Gudya\, Pow-Why\, Binkin and Gargarra. Drop into Flipside Circus’ hands-on circus workshops and spin a plate\, twirl a hoop\, or learn a trick or two – led by Flipside’s young performers and experienced trainers. These short\, fun-filled sessions are perfect for wee ones and their grown-ups alike. \nBirmba  10:30am and 2pm \nAs a once-in-a-century event is fast approaching\, Kukubaka\, the lively chatterbox\, Junkurrji\, the strong and steady protector\, and Junkaji\, the wise one\, encourage audiences to connect and re-ground. Guided by knowledge passed down from generation to generation and deep listening\, will the collective voice and spirit save their fellow rainforest jawun (friends)? Touching on comradeship\, loss and strength in numbers\, this multi-layered interactive theatrical experience invites audiences of all ages to witness a story of resilience\, responsibility\, and belonging. It offers Brisbane kids and parents a wonderful opportunity to explore a scenic sculpture trail and enjoy hands-on art demonstrations together. \nBrisbane Sculpture Festival 2026\nMt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens will come alive with creativity as the Brisbane Sculpture Festival returns\, turning the gardens into an inspiring outdoor gallery the whole family can enjoy. \nPresented by Sculptors Queensland\, the free event features both indoor and outdoor exhibitions showcasing works by some of Queensland’s most prominent sculptors\, from bold and contemporary to whimsical and thought-provoking. Every piece is available for purchase\, and visitors are encouraged to vote in the People’s Choice award for their favourites.
