DESCRIPTION:Families and kids can experience a unique piece of global art at the Museum of Brisbane when The Red Dress exhibition makes its first Australian appearance from July 2026 to September 2026. This award-winning project showcases incredible collaborative creativity\, uniting 380 international embroiderers to create one extraordinary Guinness World Record garment. \nThe Red Dress exhibition\nCollaborative creativity from 380 embroiderers in 51 countries interwoven into one garment. \nThe Red Dress is an award-winning global community art project conceived by British artist Kirstie Macleod\, spanning 14 years and uniting 380 embroiderers across 51 countries into a single\, extraordinary garment. Museum of Brisbane and Warwick Art Gallery will jointly exhibit the work in a significant coup for Queensland\, marking its first ever showing in Australia. \nOriginally designed to spark conversations about identity\, the project has evolved into a powerful platform for self-expression\, amplifying marginalised voices and addressing social issues through traditional embroidery and intricate stitchwork. From 2009 to 2023\, pieces of the dress travelled the globe\, embroidered by 367 women\, 11 men and two non-binary artists from 51 countries\, among them refugees\, asylum seekers\, survivors of war\, and disadvantaged women worldwide. The project carries local resonance too\, with Brisbane connections woven throughout. \nConstructed from 87 panels of burgundy silk dupion\, the completed dress weighs 6.8kg and holds a Guinness World Record for the largest collaborative embroidery project. It is estimated to contain between one and 1.5 billion stitches\, each one weighted with personal story and signifying the enduring link between artisans\, first-time embroiderers\, and diverse audiences around the world. \nBrisbane’s AllThreads community created a detailed and highly skilled embroidery for Australia’s contribution to the global project\, capturing the country’s unique landscape\, flora and fauna. \nOn display in Australia for the first time\, textile and embroidery artists and general audiences alike are invited to marvel at the delicate details of this deeply thought-provoking work. All 141 embroiderers with commissioned contributions received compensation\, along with a share of exhibition fees and merchandise sales. Held at the Lawnton Showgrounds\, this iconic Moreton Bay event offers Brisbane families an exciting lineup of live rodeo action\, lawnmower races\, pavilion displays\, fireworks\, and a fun scavenger hunt for kids. \n\n\nAnnual Pine Rivers Show 2026\n\nThe Pine Rivers Show is the biggest and oldest running local show in the Moreton Bay Region\, held annually over three days with a proud tradition in farming\, family entertainment\, and bringing the community together. \nThe show features a packed program of entertainment\, agriculture\, competitions\, and exhibitions\, with plenty to see and do across the weekend without spending an extra cent. Free entertainment and activities for all ages include interactive exhibits\, live performances\, roaming entertainment\, and family-friendly activities throughout the grounds. \nHeadline entertainment includes live music on the Courtyard Stage across all three days\, a Rodeo in the Main Arena on Friday evening from 5:30pm\, and Mower Races in the Main Arena on Saturday and Sunday. \nPavilions open across the weekend include Art and Craft\, Cookery\, Education\, Needlework\, Horticulture\, Floral Art\, Photography\, and Woodchop\, with exhibits and competitions running daily. Agricultural displays include cattle (Friday and Saturday)\, poultry (all weekend with the main show on Sunday)\, and sheep (Sunday only\, interschool competition). This year’s experience is led by local First Nations artist Kaylah Coghill\, a Yagara/Koenpul woman from Nginila and Tjerangari\, which is Inala and Stradbroke Island. She is a direct descendant of the Yagara peoples of Magandjin\, who are the traditional custodians of Brisbane as well as the Koenpul peoples of Quandamooka\, who are the traditional custodians of the Moreton Bay region. Kaylah is a teacher aide who works in her local community of Inala. She has spent the last years raising her two children and working within the local communities of Magandjin teaching Indigenous workshops on art\, music\, language and dancing. She has also participated in many creative community and council projects in and around the Inala area\, working with Elders\, teens and young children. \nTribalLink’s Cultural Discovery Van  10am to 4pm \nStep inside the TribalLink Cultural Discovery Van – a vibrant space filled with cultural resources\, art and artefacts. Experience First Nations culture through stories\, song\, music\, dance and hands-on discovery. An immersive experience you can touch\, taste\, feel\, hear and see. \nDeadly Kindies Arts and Crafts  10am to 4pm \nGet crafty with Deadly Kindies! Participants design and create their own mini dilly bag using a mix of natural fibres – such as pandanus\, raffia and emu feathers – alongside contemporary craft materials. Every piece is available for purchase\, and visitors are encouraged to vote in the People’s Choice award for their favourites. A gold coin donation or raffle ticket purchase is appreciated. \nThe indoor exhibition is held at the Mt Coot-tha Auditorium from 1st to 9th August (open daily 10am to 4pm)\, where visitors can view works up close and speak directly with the sculptors. \nThe outdoor sculpture trail winds through the beautiful botanic gardens from 1st August to 30th October (open daily 10am to 4pm)\, with sculptures of all shapes and sizes tucked among the greenery. \nSculpture demonstrations will be held on selected dates throughout the festival\, and small group tours of the outdoor trail are available by appointment. DESCRIPTION:The Woodford Railway Heritage Train Rides\nSit in open air carriages and let the wind blow through your hair as you ride on a heritage train at the Woodford Railway. Friendly volunteers will greet you on the platform and help you board the train as well as share their are full of local knowledge and their passion for their beloved railway with you.  \nThe 15 minute journey allows you to sit back and breathe in the fresh country air and watch the horses in the paddocks as you drive by (alongside around 300 metres of housing development) \nThere is a small display room on the platform which you can wander around and learn more about the historical trains and carriages. There are also other long-standing carriages and tracks dotted around the grounds which are a reminder of a bygone era. \nTickets for the round-trip train ride can be purchased from the Ticket Office\, situated in the middle of the platform. Cold drinks and a variety of train books and memorabilia are available for purchase from the office. \n\nThe Woodford Railway Heritage Train Rides\nWhen: The Woodford Railway runs Heritage Train rides on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of each month. Rides starting at 10am and running until 3pm (generally stopping between 12:45 – 1.30pm for lunch). It is an educational and engaging local outing for kids and history enthusiasts alike. \nBrisbane Transport Museum Open Days 2026\nThe Brisbane Transport Museum\, located at 600 Mains Road\, Nathan\, is home to the largest display of heritage buses and coaches in Queensland with a current fleet of vehicles spanning from 1938 to 1996 models. The majority of these buses operated for Brisbane City Council and form a significant part of Brisbane’s transport heritage. \nThe Museum possesses a large collection of rare photos and industry memorabilia that represent over a century of passenger transport history.
