Designed for Brisbane families with kids aged six and over\, this free interactive wildlife session offers hands-on encounters with iconic native animals\, teaching children about local conservation and protecting urban habitat. \nMeet Wildlife Neighbours at Downfall Creek\nGet up close and discover the feathered\, furry and scaly friends that live in our neighbourhoods. \nBrisbane is Australia’s most biodiverse capital city\, with native wildlife living all around us\, from backyards to local parks and nature reserves. A wildlife expert will lead a hands-on session in nature\, giving visitors the chance to meet some of Brisbane’s most iconic animals and learn what makes them special\, how they live\, and the role they play in local ecosystems. \nLearning more about native species can help people make simple changes\, like planting native vegetation or keeping pets indoors at night\, that protect Brisbane’s wildlife and help it thrive. \nVisitors should arrive at least 10 minutes early to check in at the centre\, and children must be with an adult at all times. As parts of the session may be outdoors\, it’s a good idea to wear a hat\, sun-safe clothing and fully enclosed shoes\, and bring sunscreen and insect repellent. There are no food outlets on site\, so bring water and a snack too. \nSuitable for ages 6 and over. Bookings are required via Eventbrite\, with a maximum of 5 tickets per booking and 1 adult for every 4 children. Everyone attending\, adults and kids\, needs a ticket. Ideal for families\, this weekend event lets kids step inside classic aircraft cockpits\, view military vehicles and sports cars\, explore model railway displays\, and enjoy free popcorn. \n\n\nQueensland Air Museum Open Day – Planes\, Trains & Automobiles\nThe Queensland Air Museum is holding its next Open Day\, Planes\, Trains & Automobiles\, bringing together aviation\, motoring\, modelling and history. \nSeven aircraft* will be open for visitors to explore\, including the F-111\, DC-3\, Huey and Wessex\, along with all three generations of the museum’s Lockheed maritime patrol and anti-submarine aircraft: the WWII-era Ventura\, the P-2 Neptune and the P-3 Orion. Visitors can step inside the aircraft\, explore the cockpits and interiors\, and talk with museum volunteers about their history\, restoration and what it was like to fly and maintain them. \nClassic\, performance and military vehicles will be on display from several visiting clubs\, including the Holden HSV/HDT Club\, Ford XR6/XR8 Club\, Maroochy Car Owners Club\, ADF/QPS Club and a representative from the Military Jeep Club. Vehicles on show will range from Holdens and Fords to military Jeeps and a Lamborghini Gallardo. \nThe day also includes several model railway displays\, model ships from visiting clubs\, and radio-controlled aircraft and boats. There will be free popcorn\, along with a sales table featuring vintage and second-hand model kits and books. \nFurther attractions\, displays and activities will be announced closer to the date. SUMMARY:Great Koala Count – Whites Hill Reserve
DESCRIPTION:Become citizen scientists at the Great Koala Count at Whites Hill Reserve in Camp Hill this October 2026. Local Brisbane families can join guided morning survey teams along bushland tracks to spot wild koalas\, help protect native wildlife\, and enjoy morning tea\, prize draws\, and educational stalls back at the park playground. \nGreat Koala Count – Whites Hill Reserve\nThe Great Koala Count returns to Whites Hill Reserve\, and is run by the Whites Hill – Pine Mountain Community Group Inc (WHPMCG). \nOver the past few years\, WHPMCG\, together with other local groups and community members\, has conducted large-scale koala counts throughout Whites Hill Reserve to help build a picture of the local koala population. Participants split into approximately six teams\, each covering a different area of the reserve during a 1.5-hour guided survey. For the protection of the reserve and its wildlife\, all groups stay on designated tracks at all times. \nPrevious counts have found 45 koalas in October 2023\, 23 in May 2025\, and 44 in October 2025. \nThe event schedule runs as follows: participants meet at the Band Stand beside the children’s playground at 7am\, the count begins at 7:30am\, and groups return to the meeting point by 9am. Following the count\, a morning tea is held where results are tallied\, sightings and survey sheets are shared\, and short presentations\, stalls and prize draws take place. \nRegistration costs $8 for adults and $5 for children\, with proceeds donated to local koala rescue groups. Participants contribute to community efforts to record koala sightings and build understanding of the koalas living within the reserve. \nPets are not permitted. Some trails are unsealed\, so sturdy\, closed-in shoes are recommended\, along with a broad-brimmed hat\, a shirt with sleeves\, and a water bottle. Binoculars are optional but useful. \nChildren under 16 must have a supervising guardian present\, and all children must be supervised throughout. This is an outdoor event in a bushland environment\, and participants are asked to read the safety information provided in their confirmation email carefully.
