SUMMARY:Natalya Hughes The Castle of Tarragindi
DESCRIPTION:Natalya Hughes The Castle of Tarragindi\nAustralian artist Natalya Hughes creates paintings\, textiles\, sculptures and installations informed by decorative and ornamental traditions. SUMMARY:Departure
DESCRIPTION:Departure\n\nAs Artists in Residence at Museum of Brisbane (MoB) for BrisAsia Stories\, Christine Ko and Louis Lim will extend upon their ongoing project Departure. In this iteration of the project\, Christine and Louis will lead a series of informal conversations and workshops with various members from Brisbane migrant communities. Participants will be encouraged to share their stories of migration and create paper kites using photographs from their family archives. \nChristine and Louis are interested in kites as a symbol for the migrant experience\, for they evoke “flights of joyous and naive childlike wonder and optimism that is simultaneously at the whim of external circumstances\, constantly buffeted by the surrounding environment that can sometimes lead to deep disappointment (crash landing)”. Over the residency\, more and more kites will be added to an evolving installation in the MoB Hallway. The kites will be accompanied by written transcripts of the recollections of the participants. In sharing these stories\, the project will contribute to larger conversations about immigration and race in Australia. \nDeparture\nWhen: 1 February – 7 June\, 10am – 5pm daily \nWhere: Museum of Brisbane\, Brisbane City Hall \nCost: free \n\nFind out more here Artists in Residence: Christine Ko and Louis Lim – Museum of Brisbane | MoB

SUMMARY:Artist in Residence: Hiromi Tango
DESCRIPTION:Artist in Residence: Hiromi Tango\nJapanese-Australian multidisciplinary artist Hiromi Tango will start a six-month residency from 2 March 2024 where the contemporary creative will transform Museum of Brisbane’s Adelaide Street Pavilion into a sculptural arrangement of vibrant flowers through the 花弁 Hanabira (Gentle Petal) public installation. \nAs the community-led project begins to blossom\, Hiromi invites residents and visitors to create decorative flowers and foliage fashioned from upcycled textiles and foraged local materials inspired by the abundant blooms and buds found across Meanjin/Brisbane. \nMuseum-goers can participate in facilitated hands-on workshops or simply wander in and engage in self-guided art activities to contribute to the budding public project. \nHanabira (Gentle Petal) will reflect the changing seasons as handmade flowers are added to the walls\, creating a floral sanctuary and a meditative space for expression\, transformation and healing. \nExamining the intersection of art\, health and neuroscience is at the root of Hiromi’s decades-long practice\, which manifests as colourful\, tactile and multilayered sculptural displays. \nHer process is cumulative; she weaves\, wraps and stitches over everyday objects and materials before joining them together to construct immersive environments. \nThrough her art\, Hiromi has developed an immediately recognisable style that has seen her works displayed in major Australian museums as well as international exhibitions in the US\, Belgium\, Dubai and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. \nAs Artist-in-Residence\, Hiromi will be in attendance at MoB\, allowing visitors to witness her expression in action\, draw inspiration as the healing garden takes shape and help the artist add to the blooming display. Participate in a petal-powered display as this captivating Artist in Residence creates a community garden of inspiring blooms and buds within the inspiring environs of the Museum of Brisbane. \nArtist in Residence: Hiromi Tango\nWhen: Saturday 2 March – Sunday 11 August\, 10am – 5pm daily \nWhere: Museum of Brisbane\, Level 3\, City Hall \nCost: Free \nMore information: Artist in Residence: Hiromi Tango – Museum of Brisbane | MoB

What’s more\, many parents and carers are making more than one mistake at a time.   \nThis is significant\, because a correctly fitted child car seat can significantly reduce the risk of injury in an accident by up to 70%**.   \nTransurban is reminding parents and carers that it’s best to get your seat fitted by a professional – not just the first time it’s installed\, but every time your child progresses from one seat to the next.  \n*Data collected in a sample size of over 1\,000 car seats across the Brisbane\, Sydney and Melbourne metro area by Transurban and Kidsafe during National Road Safety Week (May 2023) \n^Neura\, www.neura.edu.au/news-media/media-releases/neura-and-kidsafe-australia-release-updated-national-child-restraint-guidelines (Mar 2021)\n~Transurban Road Safety Centre at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) \, www.transurban.com/news/car-seat-installation (Jul 2021)\n**Neura\, www.neura.edu.au/news/safely-packed-kids/ (Dec 2017) \nEvent details\nWhen and Where\n \n\n\nTuesday 7th May | Orion Shopping Centre\, Springfield | 9:30am-4:00pm\n\n\nWednesday 8th May | Rochedale Village\, Rochedale | 9:30am-4:00pm\n\n\nThursday 9th May | Wynnum Plaza\, Wynnum | 9:30am-4:00pm\n\n\nFriday 10th May | Aspley Hypermarket\, Aspley | 9:30am-4:00pm\n\n\nBook here
