It offers Brisbane kids and parents a wonderful opportunity to explore a scenic sculpture trail and enjoy hands-on art demonstrations together. \nBrisbane Sculpture Festival 2026\nMt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens will come alive with creativity as the Brisbane Sculpture Festival returns\, turning the gardens into an inspiring outdoor gallery the whole family can enjoy. \nPresented by Sculptors Queensland\, the free event features both indoor and outdoor exhibitions showcasing works by some of Queensland’s most prominent sculptors\, from bold and contemporary to whimsical and thought-provoking. Every piece is available for purchase\, and visitors are encouraged to vote in the People’s Choice award for their favourites. A gold coin donation or raffle ticket purchase is appreciated. \nThe indoor exhibition is held at the Mt Coot-tha Auditorium from 1st to 9th August (open daily 10am to 4pm)\, where visitors can view works up close and speak directly with the sculptors. \nThe outdoor sculpture trail winds through the beautiful botanic gardens from 1st August to 30th October (open daily 10am to 4pm)\, with sculptures of all shapes and sizes tucked among the greenery. \nSculpture demonstrations will be held on selected dates throughout the festival\, and small group tours of the outdoor trail are available by appointment. Founded by Jim and Jane Henson in 1955\, the company gave us the Muppets\, Sesame Street\, Fraggle Rock\, The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth\, and they are still leading the way in puppetry today. \nWhat kids will see\nHundreds of objects fill the space\, including real puppets\, animatronic creatures\, props\, costumes\, original drawings and clips from the screen. Kids get to see the journey from hand-made puppets right through to today’s animatronics and digital wizardry\, and learn how creature designers dream up a character from scratch. \nThe showstopper is a world first. A wildlife expert will lead a hands-on session in nature\, giving visitors the chance to meet some of Brisbane’s most iconic animals and learn what makes them special\, how they live\, and the role they play in local ecosystems. \nLearning more about native species can help people make simple changes\, like planting native vegetation or keeping pets indoors at night\, that protect Brisbane’s wildlife and help it thrive. \nVisitors should arrive at least 10 minutes early to check in at the centre\, and children must be with an adult at all times. As parts of the session may be outdoors\, it’s a good idea to wear a hat\, sun-safe clothing and fully enclosed shoes\, and bring sunscreen and insect repellent. DESCRIPTION:The Woodford Railway Heritage Train Rides\nSit in open air carriages and let the wind blow through your hair as you ride on a heritage train at the Woodford Railway. Friendly volunteers will greet you on the platform and help you board the train as well as share their are full of local knowledge and their passion for their beloved railway with you.  \nThe 15 minute journey allows you to sit back and breathe in the fresh country air and watch the horses in the paddocks as you drive by (alongside around 300 metres of housing development) \nThere is a small display room on the platform which you can wander around and learn more about the historical trains and carriages. There are also other long-standing carriages and tracks dotted around the grounds which are a reminder of a bygone era. \nTickets for the round-trip train ride can be purchased from the Ticket Office\, situated in the middle of the platform. Cold drinks and a variety of train books and memorabilia are available for purchase from the office. \n\nThe Woodford Railway Heritage Train Rides\nWhen: The Woodford Railway runs Heritage Train rides on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of each month. Rides starting at 10am and running until 3pm (generally stopping between 12:45 – 1.30pm for lunch).
