Looking for a fun, low-cost creative experience for your child? The Nest Community Inc is a not-for-profit organisation located on the North-side of Brisbane providing affordable craft workshop experiences for women and children.
Most people think of creativity as the act of making something, but the root meaning of the word is ‘to grow’. At The Nest, creativity is fundamental to all of their programs.
The Nest’s creative programs include crochet, knitting, sewing, macrame, jewellery making, basket weaving, embroidery, printmaking, mixed media, textiles, social groups, sustainable living days, school holiday programs, community events and much more.
School Holiday Program at The Nest
The School Holiday Workshop Program focuses on the importance of using environmentally friendly materials and includes recycled paper making, tie-dye t-shirts, mandala stone painting, woven bracelets, up-cycled jeans bag, crochet, sock toys, loom weaving, sewing and much more.
The Nest workshop sessions provide a basic introduction to design, craft skills and project management. Beyond the fun of being in a creative social learning environment, project based craft is a fantastic way to prepare young people for all those assignments that both school and life will throw at them in the coming years. The class environment is similar to a club, and our heritage house is like a giant cubby house for youth.
The Nest Kids’ Social Groups
Unlike drop in workshops, The Nest provides a regular meeting space for children where they can make life-long friendships. The Nest kids social groups provide an opportunity for your child to learn various craft techniques and sewing skills. Your child will work on a project over a number of weeks from design through to completion. Our workshop facilitators all hold blue cards and are highly experienced with working with children. The club-like atmosphere not only provides a great opportunity for your child to make new lasting friendships but also build self-esteem, creative development and problem-solving skills.
The Nest Community Inc is located at 720 South Pine Road, Everton Park. To find out more about the programs on offer at The Nest, please visit www.nestcommunity.org.au.
