The Ballet Theatre of Queensland presents The Sleeping Beauty at the Playhouse, QPAC in January 2019, during the Christmas School Holidays.
The Sleeping Beauty
Every year, the Ballet Theatre of Queensland holds a season to entertain the whole family, showcase their dancers and to foster a love of ballet.
This year, the Ballet Theatre of Queensland has chosen to perform The Sleeping Beauty to showcase their young ballerinas. An extremely popular ballet, featuring music by Tchaikovsky, The Sleeping Beauty tells the story of Princess Aurora. Those familiar with the story will know that on her 16th birthday, Princess Aurora pricks her finger on the thorn of a rose, falling under a spell cast by the wicked fairy Carabosse. After sleeping for 100 years, Aurora is finally woken by a tender kiss from a handsome prince. Of course, you will have to go along and attend the performance of The Sleeping Beauty if you want to find out if they fall in love and live happily ever after, but as the ballet follows the traditional story of Sleeping Beauty, chances are it has a happy ending!
The Sleeping Beauty is a timeless classic, which has been performed to millions throughout the world and the version by the Ballet Theatre of Queensland playing at QPAC is sure to exceed expectations. Choreographed by Artistic Director Timothy Brown, with set design by Bill Haycock and costumes by Carmel Wenck, the show features the young and talented dancers from Ballet Theatre of Queensland, which supports young talent, while developing an appreciation of ballet amongst younger audiences.
The Ballet Theatre of Queensland’s exquisitely produced classic ballet targets a family audience, features beautiful dancing, gorgeous sets and stunning costumes making it the perfect holiday outing for Brisbane Kids and lovers of the ballet of all ages.
