Government House Open Day 2025
NOTE: This event is now fully booked out.
Government House stands as one of Queensland’s most iconic landmarks, uniquely blending its role as a private residence, working office, public symbol of state, and custodian of Queensland’s heritage and traditions. Since 1910, it has served as the home and workplace of Queensland Governors, holding deep historical, cultural, and environmental significance.
On Saturday 19th July, the estate will open its gates to the public for a special Open House Day. Visitors are invited to explore this distinguished residence and its beautiful grounds through guided House and Garden Tours. While the event is free to attend, bookings are essential to secure preferred tour times.
Tours of the House will depart every 15 minutes from the Lower House Lawn, offering a 45-minute insight into the residence’s rich history and architecture. These tours are wheelchair and pram accessible.
Garden Tours will depart hourly from the statue of Her Majesty The Queen and provide a guided walk through the estate’s landscaped grounds. These tours also run for 45 minutes and require a moderate level of fitness, as they involve extensive walking and are not suitable for wheelchairs.
The estate will be open to visitors from late morning to mid-afternoon. Entry is via Gate B on Fernberg Road, with parking available nearby. Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable footwear and bring a hat and sunscreen.
This is a rare opportunity to experience the beauty and legacy of Government House up close, with friendly guides sharing stories from one of Brisbane’s most treasured historical sites.
