Lunar New Year @ Gold Coast 2026
Southport’s Chinatown will come alive this Lunar New Year as the community comes together to celebrate the Year of the Horse with an afternoon and evening of cultural entertainment, family activities and great food.
Representing vitality and perseverance, the Year of the Horse will be celebrated from 3pm along Davenport and Young Streets, where visitors can enjoy a lively atmosphere filled with colour, cuisine and tradition. Entertainment includes lion and dragon dancers, Kizuna drummers and a range of cultural performances throughout the precinct.
Families can take part in a variety of hands-on kids’ activities, including lotus origami making, Chinese stamp making, woodblock printing, Chinese name writing, face painting and diabolo playing. An interactive wishing tree will also be available for visitors to share their hopes for the year ahead.
Food trucks and market stalls will line the streets, while the popular $5 Food Safari returns, inviting visitors to explore Chinatown and sample some of Southport’s best value dishes. A downloadable map will be available closer to the event.
The celebrations will conclude with a fireworks finale at 7.30pm, providing a fitting end to this festive Lunar New Year celebration in Chinatown.
