These school holidays, families are invited to celebrate creativity, culture and community at the State Library of Queensland. With a vibrant mix of hands-on workshops, immersive experiences, and family-friendly activities, there’s something to inspire kids of all ages.
Program Highlights
Animal Tracks with Colleen Sam
Tuesday 1 – Thursday 3 July, 10am – 12pm
Join Kalkadoon painter and storyteller Colleen Sam to explore the significance of totem animals. Kids can get creative using colourful sand to make their own animal track artworks. Free, drop-in activity.
Painting Workshop with Colleen Sam
Tuesday 1 – Thursday 3 July, 1pm – 3pm
$15 per child | Ages 6–12 | Bookings required
Children will dive into storytelling through painting, using colour, symbols and animals to bring their own stories to life.
The Corner Takeover: Colour My World
Saturday 28 June – Sunday 6 July, 10am – 12.30pm
Celebrate children’s rights to creative expression with imaginative sessions inspired by Barbara Piscitelli’s Children’s Art Archive. Activities include dress-ups, construction play, pretend scenarios and art-making.
The Corner Takeover: NAIDOC Next Generation
Monday 7 – Sunday 13 July, 10am – 12.30pm
Each day during NAIDOC Week, join in celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community heroes. These sessions highlight inspiring individuals through storytelling, picture books, music and crafts.
Scavenger Hunt
Saturday 28 June – Sunday 13 July, 10am – 3pm
Explore the library on a self-paced, low-sensory scavenger hunt designed for all ages and abilities. Discover hidden spaces and stories as you go.
Reading Room
Saturday 28 June – Sunday 13 July, 10am – 3pm
Relax with a book and city views in the cosy reading room. Family board games are also available to borrow from The Corner.
