If you have little daredevils who love climbing, exploring and letting their imaginations run wild, then Lions Park in Helensvale is worth visiting if you are on the Gold Coast.
With its pirate-themed climbing structure, tube slide and plenty of opportunities to test their climbing skills, this playground is particularly appealing to energetic kids who love a challenge.
Lions Park Playground, Helensvale

Ahoy, little pirates! Lions Park playground is designed around climbing and adventure, with a large climbing structure featuring netting, a lookout and a pirate flag that gives it a fun swashbuckling feel. There’s also a smaller play area for younger children, along with shaded parkland, picnic facilities and plenty of grassy space to enjoy a family outing.
Children can make their way through the climbing sections before heading down the tube slide, while the surrounding equipment offers plenty of opportunities to practise balancing, climbing and coordination.

There is also a separate climbing frame with square-shaped sections, steps, a climbing wall and netting, as well as a raised netted spinner for children who enjoy a little extra movement.
Younger visitors haven’t been forgotten, as there’s an older, smaller play area featuring a slide, activity panels, a bee rocker and seesaw.
Imagination Factor
This playground is perfect for little pirates, as the main climbing structure provides plenty of inspiration for imaginative play, with its pirate flag, elevated lookout and netted climbing sections.
Children can pretend they’re exploring a ship, keeping watch for land from the lookout or embarking on their next adventure as they navigate the climbing equipment.
The various levels and climbing challenges also encourage children to create their own games, whether they’re pretending to be explorers or adventurers on a mission looking for buried treasure.
Accessibility
Lions Park Helensvale has a pathway running throughout the park, making it easier for families using prams and wheelchairs to move around. There’s also a pathway through the grassy area, connecting different sections of the park. That said, its not what we would call an accessible park for the purpose of inclusive play.
The playground itself has a mulch and woodchip surface, which may be more challenging for wheelchair users and children with mobility difficulties to navigate.
There are different types of swings, including a joey swing and saddle strap, offering options for children of different ages and abilities.
While the park has accessible public toilets, there are no baby change facilities, so families with babies should plan accordingly.

What We Love About Lions Park
One of the best things about Lions Park Helensvale is that it offers more than just a playground. The surrounding shaded parkland provides a lovely setting for families wanting to spend a little longer outdoors.
There are two BBQs and four picnic tables, two of which have roof coverings for shade, making it a handy spot for a family lunch or an afternoon snack. The large grassy area is another bonus, giving children space to kick a ball around, play games or simply enjoy some freedom away from the playground equipment.
The playground is situated near a road, although a ditch separates the play area from the roadside. As always, supervision is recommended, particularly with younger children.
