  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to doโ€ฆ

Coles Little Explorer Nappies- Take the 5 day Challenge

Last Updated: February 20, 2023

Brought to you by Nuffnang and Coles

As a mother of three young children, Iโ€™ve been changing nappies for eight years now, and Iโ€™m still going strong! Yes, you read that right! Sounds mammoth, doesnโ€™t it? My Miss (almost) Three, Summer, is frighteningly stubborn and so I expect I have at least another year of nappy changes yet…

Recently, I had the opportunity to trial Coles Little Explorer Nappies which have just begun appearing in stores across Australia. I have been given a five day challenge by Coles – in five days I am going to test the nappies in five different scenarios.

I like Colesโ€™ brands. I eat a lot of their own brand products and I love their baby wipes (the thick ones), so I was keen to see how these nappies measured up. For the trial we used the Coles Little Explorer Junior nappies (suitable for children weighing 16 kilograms or more).

Iโ€™m sure youโ€™re dying to know the price, but I will reveal all once the challenge is completeโ€ฆ Oh the suspense!

The story of the Toddler and the Coles Little Explorer nappies.

Day 1. Challenge 1. The Fashion Parade.

Summer is my only girl and after two boys I have been ill-prepared for her early obsession with fashion. This is not something that she has learnt from me because my style is somewhere between โ€œI just got out of bedโ€ and โ€œcan you help me find my hairbrush?โ€ Nonetheless, she takes great pride in looking cool.

I was a little nervous about whether she would give the nappies a go (there was a week where she wore the same tutu for three days straight). I didnโ€™t want to make a huge scene, but I took one excitedly out of the packet and went โ€œooo aaaa oooโ€ (like a monkey) and tickled her. I put the nappy on her and as you can see she was quite excited to be wearing a nappy that featured one of her favourite animalsโ€”a monkey! Well played Coles! I love the soft and neutral colours on the nappy as it means they donโ€™t show through lightly coloured clothing.

Day 2. Challenge 2. The Playdate.

On day two we met up with a friend whose son is about a year older than Summer. Master Threeโ€™s mum was in a flap because she had forgotten to bring a spare nappy with her for nap time. I handed her one of the Coles Little Explorer nappiesโ€”after all, they are unisex (for day and night)! Just to be sure I also asked her to test them overnight, just to be sure, and the verdict wasโ€ฆ they worked! HUZZAH!

Day 3. Challenge 3. The Heatwave.

On a recent spring day in Brisbane it reached 40 degrees in my house. We are renovating and we have no air-conditioning, just an old fan that only works at one speed. The lowest. So we roast. Happy to report no chaffing or redness, despite frequent weeing (thanks to me offering her water every five minutes). She also tested out the nappy with a big poo and still no redness!

Day 4. Challenge 4. She didnโ€™t sleep through the night.

Itโ€™s a well-known fact that the third child will try your patience sleep wise, and generally once a week or so at about 2am we hear the patter of feet, a request for a bottle and Miss Two will inevitably end up in bed with us. Thanks to the bottle, 9 times out of 10 we end up with some wetness in our bed with the nappy brand we were previously using. With Coles Little Explorerโ€”nothing! Thanks to their 3 layer dry-tech core (ok I read that on the packet), it had held back the flood gates! It was full, for sure, but our bed was dry.

Day 5. The Finale. The outdoor nappy – dirt and mud fun.

I couldnโ€™t resist really putting these nappies through their paces, and so it was a lot of fun to insist my toddler run through the mud, climb our cubby ladder, chase the chickens, wrestle the dogโ€ฆ All the things I normally let her do, but this time I insisted it was just with a nappy and a shirt on. There was once, just once, when she was hugging the dog way too enthusiastically that I needed to reseal a tab. To be fair though, she had been playing for three hours and our friendly bullmastiff is 70 kilograms of fun. I consider this a major win as it means I can rely on the nappies to be sturdy and hold their ground wherever we are and whatever we are doing. Theyโ€™re built for little explorers!

Are Coles Little Explorer Nappies the best value nappies in Australia?

So, now weโ€™ve established that these unisex nappies are reliable and dependable, you want to know the price, right? Well just bear with me a little bit longerโ€ฆ Letโ€™s take a look at the features they offer in their newborn range.

Relying on Coles Little Explorer Nappies for newborns

Itโ€™s been two years since I had a newborn, but thinking back to that stage of life brought back a flood of delicious memories and some I am glad have now passed. If you have a newborn I expect you are going to like the following features that Coles Little Explorer Newborn nappies offer:

  • Wetness Indicator. This is mandatory in my opinion. When they are toddlers itโ€™s totally fine to grab the nappy and check it but when they are a sleeping baby or awake and gurgling away as happy as Larry you want to know if you REALLY need to change them. The Coles Little Explorer nappies answer this for you with an indicator star on the front that fades as they need changing.
  • Umbilical Cord Cut Out. I havenโ€™t seen it myself because I trialled the bigger nappies but it sounds like an awesome idea. I remember having to put some gauze over my two older kids when they were babies to stop the nappy rubbing. This is a great invention that could only have come from a mumโ€ฆ Oh ok, maybe a dad!
  • The Coles Little Explorer Nappies are unisex, but come in six different sizes. Every nappy size features a different colour panel and cute animal, which simplifies things if you have kids of different ages still in nappies.

Coles Little Explorer nappies โ€“ a price tag that will shock you

After the success of the trial, I set out to Coles to check the prices. For something of this quality, I expected a hefty price tag. This is where I was so wrong. What are you currently paying for nappies? Make some calculations to see how much you could be saving every week, without the need to compromise on quality.
