Brisbane families looking for unique outdoor activities will love the Echidna Workshop at Samford Conservation Park in June 2026. This free hands-on event teaches kids and parents how to track native wildlife with an expert ecologist. Participants can meet conservation detection dogs and enjoy a guided nature walk through the park.
Echidna Workshop – Samford Conservation Park
Discover the secret world of the short-beaked echidna with wildlife ecologist Dr Kate Dutton-Regester at Samford Conservation Park.
This hands-on workshop covers echidna ecology and teaches participants how to identify signs of echidna activity in the field, including scats, tracks and diggings. Observations made on the day can also be contributed to EchidnaWatch, helping researchers better understand echidna distribution, behaviour and habitat use across Queensland.
Participants will also get to meet Jayda and Jarrah, conservation detection dogs, and learn how trained dogs are used to support wildlife research on the ground.
The workshop begins with a presentation before heading outdoors for a guided walk. Meet at the Ironbark Gully picnic area, north of the carpark. Bring water, snacks, and comfortable walking gear.
