Griffith University Creative Arts Open Day 2026

Explore a world of creative expression at Griffith University’s Creative Arts Open Day, as we showcase our vibrant community of artists, designers, performers and filmmakers at our South Bank campus.

Immerse yourself in interactive workshops, exhibitions, tours, demonstrations and information sessions across disciplines ranging from visual arts and design to music, performance and film and screen. Activities on the day include design and visual arts information sessions, an alumni panel, gallery exhibitions, a design showcase, open studios in jewellery, print, painting, sculpture, photography and drawing, studio tours, film and animation demonstrations, game design workshops, a stop motion demo led by an Oscar winner, Queensland Conservatorium student performances and tours, and information sessions covering acting, musical theatre, music, and more.

Design Info Session 10:30 – 11:00 am, 12:00 – 12:30 pm Learn how to change the world through design-led solutions. Explore majors in Visual Communication, Interior Design, and Product/User Experience Design.

Visual Arts Info Session 9:30 – 10:00 am, 1:00 – 1:30 pm An introduction to the Bachelor of Visual Arts, including disciplines like photography, painting, sculpture, and printmaking.

Creative Arts Alumni Panel 11:00 – 11:45 am Graduates share career journeys and industry insights from the Queensland College of Art and Design and Griffith Film School.

Webb Gallery / Project Gallery / Grey Street Gallery 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Explore various exhibition spaces showcasing works by staff, students, and the community.

Design Showcase 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Immerse yourself in works ranging from interactive media to cutting-edge graphic and product design.

Jewellery and Small Objects Open Studio 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Explore a fully equipped workshop and participate in a hands-on session to craft a “Meaningful Medallion.”

Liveworm Design Studio 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Visit an authentic studio environment where students work on real projects for professional clients.

Print Demo 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Explore facilities for papermaking, woodblock printing, and letterpress while meeting staff and students.

Drawing Workshop 9:00 am – 2:00 pm A collaborative drawing session open for brief visits or immersive hours.

Photography Demo 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Visit photographic studios and darkrooms to see student projects and experience the facilities.

Painting Workshop 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm (30 min sessions) Join an exciting painting session in an expansive, light-filled studio space.

Sculpture Workshop 9:00 am – 2:00 pm A dynamic workshop uncovering the creative potential of everyday materials.

Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art Open Studio 10:00 am – 2:00 pm A unique academic space for First Nations students to yarn with staff and explore course work.

Griffith University Art Museum Internship Demo 11:00 – 11:45 am, 1:00 – 1:45 pm Learn about museum skills and watch a demonstration on making archival holders for ceramic objects.

Studio Tours Every 30 minutes from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm 30-minute guided tours of the Art, Design, and Film School studios led by student ambassadors.

Student-Created Video Game Experience 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Play a selection of games created by current game design students.

Arcade Games Workshop 9:30 – 10:00 am, 11:30 am – 12:00 pm Build your own game using pre-developed assets to understand the mechanics of game creation.

Virtual Production and Motion Capture Demo 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Discover how technology like virtual production is transforming the filmmaking process.

Game Design Info Session 10:30 – 11:15 am, 12:30 – 1:15 pm Learn about the industry and university facilities for game design.

Film and Screen Media Production Info Session 10:15 – 10:45 am, 12:00 – 12:30 pm Watch student short films and learn about screen production careers and facilities.

Stop Motion Demo 10:30 – 11:15 am, 12:30 – 1:15 pm Led by an Oscar winner, this demo shows the latest techniques in puppet replacement and live-action integration.

Animation Info Session 9:30 – 10:15 am, 11:30 am – 12:15 pm Explore animation careers and watch film shorts created by Griffith students.

Queensland Conservatorium Student Performances 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Live performances by talented music students at the Riverside entrance.

Welcome to Queensland Conservatorium and Alumni Panel 9:30 – 10:15 am Insights from an alumni panel on music careers and the Conservatorium community.

Queensland Conservatorium Tour 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 11:15 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, 1:30 pm Guided tours of world-class music studios and facilities.

Musical Theatre Info Session 11:30 am – 12:15 pm Details on the Bachelor of Musical Theatre and the partnership with QPAC.
