Horses to Horsepower Family Fun Day @ Cooneana Heritage Centre

The beloved Back in Time Family Fun Days return to the Cooneana Heritage Centre, offering families a unique and engaging day out steeped in history, hands-on activities, and community spirit. These large-scale events are held two to three times a year on Sundays, making it easy for families to enjoy together.

The upcoming Horses to Horsepower Family Fun Day will take place on Sunday 15th June, and promises something for everyone.

A major highlight will be Banjo, the centre’s newest ‘horse’ creation by Ned Kelly – an eye-catching addition that visitors can expect to see at future open days. Guests can also meet friendly animals from Old MacDonald’s Travelling Farm, where kids are encouraged to pat and interact.

Mr Magic will be dazzling audiences with his illusions – can anyone figure out how he does it? Meanwhile, the Veteran and Vintage Vehicle Club will have their stunning collection on display, and all historical exhibits throughout the centre will be open for exploration.

Families can enjoy a scenic ride on the Trackless Train and take a short journey on a Heritage Bus. Enthusiasts of mechanical history will appreciate the collection of stationary engines, with passionate owners on hand to share their knowledge.

Live entertainment includes interactive bush dancing and singalongs with the Ridgee Didge Bush Band, sure to get feet tapping and kids moving. The mobile Police Beat team will also be on site to chat with visitors and share helpful resources.

Children can enjoy old-fashioned games and take part in free craft and activity stations, while parents browse the variety of stalls offering handmade items, local treats, and more. The Cooneana Blacksmiths will be at work at their forges, demonstrating their craftsmanship throughout the day.

The Ipswich Genealogical Society, Historical Motorcycle Club of Queensland, and the Spinners, Weavers, Fibre Artisans of Ipswich will all be open and eager to share their knowledge and creativity with visitors.

A sausage sizzle, coffee, tea, cake and biscuits will be available for purchase throughout the day.

Bookings can be made online or tickets can be purchased at the gate. Don’t miss this chance to step back in time and make wonderful family memories at the Cooneana Heritage Centre.
