Open Day at Government House
Join the special Open Day at Government House on Sunday, 4 August, from 11 am to 3 pm, to celebrate all things Queensland. This year marks 165 years since Queen Victoria signed the Letters Patent, allowing Queensland to separate from New South Wales and become an independent colony in 1859.
Government House, also known as Fernberg, is Queensland’s premier heritage home and the working residence of the Queensland Governor. It’s a place deeply connected to the state’s history and people. The Governor, as the representative of Queensland’s Head of State, King Charles III, plays a vital role in unifying and promoting the state and its organizations, supporting and recognizing Queenslanders across various community interests.
Her Excellency, through her patronage of Queensland-based community groups and associations, has invited many of these organizations to this year’s Open Day. Visitors can enjoy displays, activities, and performances showcasing their contributions to the state.
Enjoy the festive atmosphere with treats from the King of Cakes, refreshments from the Tim Adams Specialty Coffee van, and a delicious lunch from London Spuds, all while listening to live music from several performers.
Guests are welcome to explore the historic house, with knowledgeable volunteer guides available to share insights about the house’s history and the Governor’s constitutional, ceremonial, and community duties. Additionally, guided garden tours will be offered by the Horticultural team, departing from The Queen’s statue. A moderate level of fitness and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
Don’t miss this chance to connect with Queensland’s rich heritage and vibrant community at Government House’s Open Day!
