
The Premier’s Reading Challenge 2026
The Premier’s Reading Challenge champions reading with the goal of encouraging young Queenslanders to read for pleasure and learning, to improve literacy and give them a brighter future.
It is an annual statewide initiative for Queensland state and non-state schools and home-educated students from Prep to Year 9, as well as children (aged up to 5 years) enrolled in an early childhood centre.

Key dates
Registrations open: 27 April
Reading period commences for Prep to Year 9 students: 11 May
Early childhood participation period: 17 to 28 August
Reading period finishes for Prep to Year 9 students: 28 August
Celebration Weeks: 2 to 13 November
The PRC is not a competition but a way to encourage students to develop a love of reading for life. Those who complete the challenge will receive a Certificate of Achievement.
