The Australian College of Applied Psychology (ACAP) University College has been educating counsellors, social workers and psychologists for more than 30 years. To provide a much needed service to the community, the ACAP Clinic was established in 2012 and continues to provide services nationwide.
What Services Are Offered at ACAP Clinics?
The Australian College of Applied Psychology (ACAP) Clinics offer a variety of services to the community free of charge, including sessions for children, young people and adults.
ACAP Clinics are a national service, with sessions held face-to-face at their listed campuses (they have an office in Brisbane), or via Telehealth, which alleviates many access issues for those seeking help.
Services at ACAP Clinics include:
- Individual counselling
- Group therapy sessions
- Case work and advocacy
- Workshops
- Evidence-based psycho-educational programs.
It is worth noting, there is no time limit placed on service delivery at ACAP Clinics and no Medicare or GP referral required to access the above services.
Group Therapy
To assist others with communication and socialisation skills, a variety of group therapy sessions are offered including, but not limited to:
- Managing Social Anxiety
- Emotional Regulation and Distress Tolerance
- Compassion Based Group for Carers
- Domestic and Family Violence Mutual Self Help Support Group
- Art for Happiness
- Strengthening Refugee Families
- International Students Wellbeing Group
To learn more about these groups, what they entail and who they are tailored toward, visit the ACAP Psychology Clinic website.
Who Runs ACAP Clinics?
As a training Clinic all services at ACAP Clinics are provided by psychology, counselling or social work students in the final stages of their studies.
The students working at ACAP Clinics are monitored closely and have access to regular supervision sessions with experienced senior clinicians.
Some student practitioners are even bi-lingual, which means a variety of services can be offered in languages other than English, which is beneficial to everyone including International students and refugees who may be seeking assistance.
Who Can Access ACAP Clinics?
The services offered at ACAP Clinics are availale for all, including community members, refugees, and International students.
Self-referral, the lack of fees, and the option of face-to-face or Telehealth appointments, significantly reduces the barriers many face when seeking help. If you are part of an agency, you are also able to make a referral to ACAP Clinics on behalf of your service users.
While no GP or Medicare referral is required to access ACAP Clinic services, a referral is still required, as the clinics are not equipped for emergency care or crises, and do not offer a walk-in service.
For further details, to book an appointment or make a referral visit the ACAP Psychology Clinic website.
