HLTAID012 โ€“ Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting

This course is a great option for parents, carers, educators, babysitters, and anyone responsible for young children. This program includes all the content from HLTAID009 Provide CPR and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, plus additional modules tailored to early childhood and education settings.

Many parents find this extra information beneficial, as it is designed for families who want deeper confidence in handling infant- and toddler-specific emergencies. It emphasises not only the โ€œwhat to do,โ€ but also the โ€œwhy it matters,โ€ helping you remain steady even when emotions are high.

What youโ€™ll learn:

  • Understand the responsibilities and essential fundamentals of emergency responses for children.
  • The DRSABCD action plan and how to apply it.
  • Giving CPR to infants and children.
  • How to recognise and respond to choking, allergic reactions, asthma attacks, and anaphylaxis emergencies.
  • Give care for bleeding, burns, fractures, and head injuries.
  • Safely use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on children and infants
  • Support children in shock, seizures, or other sudden illnesses.

Whether you have a newborn, an active toddler, or a school-aged child, this course equips you with the skills to protect them at home, at play, and on the go.

HLTAID011 โ€“ Provide First Aid

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is a course covering a broad range of first aid skills for adults, children, and infants. Participants complete the knowledge component online, then attend practical sessions where skills are demonstrated and practiced under supervision.

The training includes:

  • CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • Using an AED safely
  • Responding to choking incidents
  • Controlling bleeding and managing soft tissue injuries
  • First aid for burns
  • Managing fractures, sprains, and strains
  • Responding to fainting, shock, and seizures
  • Basic response to asthma and allergic reactions
  • Handling unconscious casualties who are breathing

During practical sessions, My First Aid Course Brisbane will provide guidance and answer questions to support safe demonstration and practice.

HLTAID009 โ€“ Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is designed to help you learn one of the most life saving first aid skills – CPR.

The course combines online theory with a short practical session, where trainers demonstrate techniques and participants get hands-on experience on manikins. This gives parents a chance to see exactly how to perform CPR for infants, children, and adults โ€” from positioning hands correctly to practising compressions and rescue breaths.

Practical activities covered include:

  • Following the DRSABCD action plan (Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, CPR, Defibrillator)
  • Checking responsiveness and breathing in adults, children, and infants
  • Performing compressions and rescue breaths on manikins
  • Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely

The focus is on giving a hands-on opportunity to experience and practise CPR, with guidance from qualified trainers.

Testimonials

My First Aid Course Brisbane Carseldine CPR course.

โ€œI had a great experience attending the First Aid in an Education and Care setting at Albion. The course was well structured with detailed preโ€‘course videos and assessments, followed by substantial practical training where we tested all the usual equipment used in real situations. Maria, our facilitator, was friendly, knowledgeable, and shared heaps of extra advice. With modules dedicated to children and care patients, I now feel confident to provide first aid assistance.โ€ – Radka K (Google review)

Frequently asked questions

Can a course participant be too young or too old? There isnโ€™t a strict minimum or maximum age for our courses. For younger children under 13, My First Aid Course Brisbane prefers an adult to accompany them. For participants over 13, they can attend independently, but anyone under 18 will need a parent or guardian consent form, which is provided at the time of booking.

A physical component of the course requires participants to perform CPR for two minutes and roll an adult into the recovery position while on their knees. If this isnโ€™t possible, a Certificate of Participation can be issued instead of a Statement of Attainment. This ensures that even if someone is very young, older, or has physical limitations, they can still learn about CPR and first aid in a supportive environment.

Allens Training and My First Aid Course Brisbane follow the Age Discrimination Act 2004 (Cth), which ensures everyone is welcome regardless of age.

What if I have a health issue or special circumstances? Participants need to be physically able to perform CPR for two minutes on a manikin on the floor. Certain parts of the course involve kneeling, so if you cannot kneel comfortably, you might choose to wait until you are able, or receive a Certificate of Participation.

Pregnant mums are welcome to attend, and My First Aid Course Brisbane recommends doing so before the final trimester if possible. Some prefer to try compressions on a manikin beforehand โ€” this can be arranged by contacting My First Aid Course Brisbane.

If you have a mild illness such as a cold or flu, itโ€™s best to reschedule until fully recovered to protect yourself and others. For any concerns about health conditions or the course requirements, you can contact My First Aid Course Brisban via email or phone for guidance.

When do I receive my certificate? Certificates are uploaded to your student portal within 24 hours of successful course completion. You can download, print, or save a digital copy. If you need it urgently, contact My First Aid Course Brisban at the time of booking.

If you request a hard copy, it must be requested in advance and costs an extra $5. Delivery usually takes 5โ€“7 business days via Australia Post, though certificates often arrive sooner.
