About Nutrition With Sammy
Sammy is a Clinical Nutritionist, published author and mum who brings warmth, humour and lived experience to every session. Her story began in childhood, navigating anxiety and panic disorder long before she had the tools to understand what her body was trying to tell her. This journey later shaped her passion for the connection between food, the nervous system and overall well-being.
Through study and personal experience, Sammy discovered that health isnโt just about what we eat, itโs about absorption, digestion, energy, emotions and how our body responds. Motherhood deepened this understanding, showing her how important it is to help children build a healthy relationship with food and develop trust in their own bodies.
With more than 30 years of personal and clinical insight, plus a background in entertainment, Sammy has a unique ability to connect with kids through storytelling, humour and immersive, hands-on learning. She openly shares parts of her own childhood (including friendships, big feelings, anxiety and resilience) creating a safe, relatable and engaging space where kids learn not just the โfacts,โ but the why behind them.
Sammy was recently recognised as Runner Up in the Jamie Oliver Food Hero Awards, celebrating her impact in childrenโs food education across Australia.
Sammyโs workshops empower children to understand themselves, make choices that support their well-being and recognise that their body is always communicating with them.
Educating Kids About Nutrition With School Incursions
Designed for primary students (Prep to Year 6) and junior secondary (Years 7โ9), these incursions align with the Australian Curriculum and complement what students are already learning in class.
Sammy transforms classrooms into vibrant, interactive learning spaces where students explore how their body works, why nourishment matters and how their food choices affect energy, mood and learning. Each session blends science with fun to create memorable โlightbulb moments.โ
Key components of the incursions include:
- Digestive System Exploration – A hands-on look at the digestive system using engaging props and visual displays that help students understand each stage of digestion.
- Healthy Eating Habits – Students learn healthy eating habits that improve digestion and overall well-being, including the importance of chewing and slowing down.
- Mindful Eating – A powerful sensory experience (sometimes blindfolded!) where students slow down, taste mindfully and learn to listen to their bodyโs signals.
These incursions provide a holistic, engaging approach to nutrition education supporting teachers, enriching curriculum learning and helping students form a positive relationship with food.
Interactive Kids’ Nutrition Workshops
Nutrition with Sammy also offers a range of workshops designed for children aged 5โ12 years. These sessions are ideal for outside school hours care, school holiday programs, libraries and community clubs.
The most popular workshop is Eat the Rainbow, where children enjoy a sensory-rich exploration of colourful foods, learning how each colour supports their body.
These workshops encourage children to explore nutrition in a joyful, hands-on way leaving them inspired to make more informed decisions for their bodies and their well-being.
