What happens at Wizard School?
At Wattlebrush School of Bushcraft and Wizardry, students dive into an extraordinary world where traditional wizarding subjects meet the Australian bush. Here, classes like Potions, Herbology, and Care of Magical Creatures take on a whole new life.
Wiz-kids forage for materials to craft their own magical artifacts and survival tools in bushcraft lessons. They brew potions using native Australian ingredients, creating elixirs and healing salves from the land around them. Onย custom-built broomsticks, they navigate thrilling obstacle courses, while in herbology lessons, they uncover the secret properties of Australian plants.
They also learn how to care for and protect endangered creatures, gaining practical knowledge about wildlife conservation. Every session is designed to promote critical and creative thinking while immersing kids in nature.
At Wattlebrush, each student is sorted into one of four houses, each representing a unique natural element and a commitment to protecting Australiaโs wildlife. Wings House protects the glossy black cockatoo, Woodland House champions the long-nosed potoroo, Wildfire House safeguards the northern hairy-nosed wombat, and Waterways House defends the Mary River turtle.
Within their houses, students build a sense of belonging and purpose. House points are awarded for curiosity, creativity, and teamwork, fostering an environment that encourages discovery and self-expression.
Seasonal Nature Camps for Ages 8-12
Wattlebrush’s three-day seasonal camps encourage Wiz-kids to slow down, explore nature and notice its changing rhythms. Each Wizard School Holiday camp runs 9am to 3pm, Monday to Wednesday. Thereโs no better place to start bushland adventures than the Morningside Scout Hall which provides a comfortable all weather base to learn about bushcraft.
Winter Camp: Care of Creatures (6th โ 8th July 2026)
Winter is when the Wattle blooms, and itโs time to discover the hidden lives of the creatures that share the urban bushland.
At Care of Creatures, Wiz-kidsย become apprentice magizoologists. From building fairy shelters and brewing healing potions to identifying fungi and insects, campers will uncover the secrets of Australia’s wildlife while imagining the magical beasts that might be hiding just beyond the gum trees.
Along the way, Wiz-kids develop empathy, observation skills and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. This magical adventure includes:
- Nature Maps โ Follow footprints, feathers and other signs to discover who has passed through the bush.
- Beast Keeper Training โ Learn how to safely care for magical and native creatures using bushcraft skills and gentle handling techniques.
- Habitat Building โ Construct fairy homes, bug hotels and magical creature shelters from sticks, bark and leaves.
- Dragon Games & Challenges โ Test courage, teamwork and agility in creature-themed adventures inspired by dragons, hippogriffs and other fantastic beasts.
Spring Camp: Diagon Alley Outdoor Market (28th โ 30th September 2026)
September is excellent market weather and Wattlebrush will therefore run a magical marketplace where Wiz-kids turn creativity into commerce!
At Wattlebrush Wizarding Wares, campers brew potions, craft spells, and sharpen their bushcraft skills while preparing for Wattlebrush Market Dayโa bustling bazaar where they barter handmade magical wares with family and friends. Extra knuts can be redeemed at the Goblin Challenge bank and the rarest items are saved for the final grand auction.
Along the way, Wiz-kids learn valuable skills in communication, creativity, and upcycling. This high-energy camp includes:
- Shop Creation โ Dream up a wizarding business: potion apothecary, joke shop, wandmakerโs workshop, or spell bookshop.
- Stall Building โ Design and decorate a stall fit for Diagon Alley.
- Product Crafting โ Create enchanted items from natural oddities.
- Haggling & Bartering โ Wiz-kids practice their negotiation skills as they trade and barter their creations on Market Day, with parents and friends joining in the fun.
Summer Camp: Triwizard Tournament Christmas Camp (14th – 16th December 2026)
Summer is definitely a time for games. Wiz-kids can dress in their finest wizarding attire for festive fun and activities.
There are house challenges, the awarding of the House Cup and of course a big Yule Ball Christmas party with Butterbeer. Event highlights include:
- House Sorting Ceremony: Begin with a Sorting Hat ceremony that places each student into one of the Wattlebrush houses.
- Enchanting Carols Sing-Along: Join the Frog Choir for a festive carol sing-along with wizard-themed songs.
- Quidditch Games: Engage in fun, wizard-inspired games and compete for the House Cup.
- Yule Ball Dance Lesson: Prepare for the Yule Ball with beginner dance steps, including waltzing.
