Ipswich Art Gallery is glowing with creativity this school term, with IAG Kids: LightPlay inviting little ones into a dazzling world where light becomes an element of discovery, imagination, and play.
IAG Kids: LightPlay details
Step into an immersive environment filled with light boxes, overhead projectors, torches, and translucent materials. Kids can investigate how light behaves, experiment with kaleidoscopic patterns, build and arrange shapes, and even use their own bodies to paint with light as colours mix and shadows stretch in unexpected ways.
LightPlay is intentionally designed to encourage collaborative play, experimentation, and discovery-based learning — making it as enriching as it is fun.
What to expect
Inside LightPlay, children can explore and experiment with:
- Light boxes and overhead projectors to create glowing patterns and scenes
- Torches and translucent materials to discover how light interacts with shapes and textures
- Kaleidoscopic colour mixing and shadow play
- Open-ended, hands-on creative installations that shift and change with every movement
The experience is recommended for children aged 3–8, though all ages are welcome to come along and explore.
