Our brief was simple: we wanted a relaxed coastal resort for an easy family getaway in Yamba on the NSW North Coast. A hop, skip, and a three-hour-drive from Brisbane later, and we arrived at Angourie Resort.
Nestled in the rainforest, it promised the perfect blend of fun, relaxation, and even a splash of indulgence for mum (helloooo, day spa!) All this just 4 minutes-drive from Yamba’s vibrant town centre, sparkling beaches, and pristine national park bushland. We’d struck gold!
Family-friendly accommodation
Our spacious 2 Bedroom Villa was the perfect family holiday base. It had high ceilings, hardwood floors, open plan living and dining, and a full-sized kitchen and laundry. But our favourite feature was the huge, fully enclosed wrap-around deck with a daybed, armchairs, and dining setting. Holiday mode, activated!
Swimming pools and Pool Bar
We spent hours swimming, lazing, and even dining at Angourie Resort’s beautiful pool area, complete with a heated lagoon-style pool, huge kids’ pool, and even a pool bar for maximum holiday vibes.
The kids loved the novelty of having drinks, snacks, and lunch delivered to our poolside daybeds, and we loved getting them fed without having to wrestle them out of their togs. And yes, I do like pina coladas…
Onsite restaurant
While we loved being able to eat casually beside the pool, the newly released onsite restaurant, Tides Kitchen and Bar, was just the ticket for an elevated family dinner ‘outing’ – moments from our villa.
My partner and I made the most of the new menu’s local Yamba seafood offerings and agonised over the impressive wine list – no designated driver required tonight! The kids’ menu had plenty to keep the little people happy, too, and the staff were very welcoming of the kids.
Best of all, we had them tucked into bed within minutes of finishing dessert, smugly congratulating ourselves for booking a resort with a top-notch onsite restaurant. Time for adults’-only stargazing on the daybed, soaking in the night-time sounds of the rainforest.
Family-friendly facilities
The kids loved exploring the resort’s fun outdoor playground and indoor play centre complete with a mini jumping castle, arcade games, slides, tunnels, and soft play equipment for younger children. We even had a hit at the tennis court.
But our best adventure was hiring e-bikes from reception and heading into Yamba to explore the farmers’ markets, cafes and shops. We spotted whales over lunch at the Pacific Hotel, then rode to Angourie Blue and Green Pools for a dip. These unique beachside swimming holes are an excellent calm water swimming option for families, just a few minutes from the resort. It’s also the kicking off point for coastal bushwalks in Yuraygir National Park.
Day Spa
But my favourite part of Angourie Resort is undoubtedly the Day Spa. I spent two blissful hours soaking in the indoor therapy pool, sipping herbal tea in the relaxation lounge, and relaxing deeply at the hands of a talented massage therapist and facialist. Now this is a holiday!
