Yarrabilba is a growing area to the south of Brisbane, west of the motorway to the Gold Coast. Itโs already home to some impressive playgrounds however this might just be the best yet! According to the developers of Yarrabilba, billuberaย means โa clearย skyย or fine dayโโฏโฏin Yugambehย language. We think there will be many fine days at this fantastic playscape for years to come.
Billubera Park Playground
There really is something for everyone at Billubera park playground. The main structure with two towers and a 10 metre long suspended maze bridge is instantly inviting while also blending in harmoniously with the surrounding mature eucalyptus trees.
There are multiple access points including a solid stair case and a rope climb, and slides out at different heights. This will allow Brisbane Kids to engage with this structure at their own comfort levels.
The bravest kids can be suspended in the enclosed wobbly nets set amongst the tree tops before taking one of the 4.5 metre tunnel slides back down. Thereโs also a firemanโs pole and open slide from a lower platform for children looking for a quick exit.ย
Near the bottom of the slides are spinners, a climbing slope with steep steps and a cargo net and other fun elements built into the soft fall wall. This leads up to a lovely long flying fox.
From the main climbing structure, you can see a pentagonal swing frame so that children can swing by themselves or facing towards their siblings or friends. This is also next to a fantastic ninja course complete with solar powered stop watch and a warped wall. Most of the obstacles are made from natural elements which fit in harmoniously with the natural environment and also provide interesting textural features.ย
Thereโs also a lower level to this park that features a climbing fort designed with toddlers and preschoolers in mind. Thereโs a nest swing, a four way bouncy seesaw and a wheelchair accessible spinning platform with a bar thatโs set level with the soft fall base.
Down a further level again is a 3 way basketball court. There is also a large grassy field at the bottom on the hill with wide cement paths that wind around, perfect for children to kick a ball or ride their scooters or bikes.ย
Billubera Park Imagination Factor
This playground is set amongst towering trees and thereโs a definitely forest feel here. The main structure is decorated with tree trunk art which adds to the feeling of climbing into the tree tops for an adventure.
The ninja course is designed to engage children to challenge themselves to make it further through the obstacles and ultimately get new personal best times, or challenge each other to see who can make it further without slipping or make it through the obstacles fastest. There are information plaques throughout the playground to inform visitors about various native animals which children can then pretend to be. ย
There are different balancing elements such as logs and large rocks throughout the playground – some children might like to play โthe floor is lavaโ and see how far they can travel without touching the ground. ย
Accessibility at Billubera Park
There are lovely, wide cement paths throughout Billubera Park, with bark chips below much the equipment, though there are also places with softfall.
The nest swing and carousel have been located on a soft fall level next to the cement paths with accessibility in mind. The accessible carousel is flush with the ground and has a large sturdy handle for users to hold onto. This piece of equipment is also suitable for wheelchair users.
While itโs located on a relatively quiet suburban street, itโs important to note that this playground is unfenced. Due to the trees, the size of the playground, and its design to fit on several levels on a slope, it may be difficult to keep a line of sight on multiple children. ย
There is a toilet block here with an accessible toilet, including baby change facilities.ย

What We Thought of Billubera Park
We loved the multiple ways to access the suspended bridge. Sometimes, our kids can feel scared to climb up ropes, but they still want to enjoy the big slides, so the solid stair and platform climb option is an excellent inclusion here!ย
The ninja course is fantastic, and we havenโt seen anything else quite like it. Having a separate area with equipment designed for little adventurers is a great idea. However, due to its size and the stepped design to fit the hillside location, it might be tricky keeping track of multiple children in this playground.ย
Thereโs heaps of shade here over much of the playground from the trees and from shade covers and sails, but the ninja course is mostly in the open and the basketball courts are in full sun for much of the day.ย
We love the inclusion of natural elements here and we think toilet blocks and barbecues are a must!ย It was also great to see public power points at some of the shelters.ย
