When does Botanica begin?
Brisbane City Council’s Botanica: Contemporary Art Outside lights up Brisbane’s City Botanic Gardens from 20-29 May 2022 in an event that celebrates Australia’s leading contemporary artists and designers.
What is Botanica: Contemporary Art Outside?
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said Botanica had become one of the city’s most popular outdoor exhibitions captivating over 70,000 visitors last year. “The event is free to the public and offers a range of unique activities including guided twilight walks, the popular children’s discovery trail, live artwork creation where you can contribute to an exhibit, workshops and talks. As well as delicious food trucks and an outdoor bar on Friday to Sunday evenings”.
Children’s Discovery Trail?
Families are invited to follow a map in a self-guided trail with creative activities to discover more about the Botanica artworks and artists. This year many of the artists in Botanica have thought about the future and our relationship with nature to plan their artworks. Thinking about sustainability and preservation of environment is an important theme in many of their works.
The trail encourages children to think about their own connection to nature and the future while enjoying the artworks.
You can pick up our children’s discovery trail activity booklet at Botanica so you and your children can explore the artworks and participate in activities.
Botanica 2022 is presented by Brisbane City Council and produced by Museum of Brisbane.
