Start your engines and zoom into the marvellous Brisbane Motor Museum on the northside of Brisbane. This hidden gem in Banyo is growing in popularity and features amazing displays of motor vehicles which will enthral even the most fanatical car enthusiast.
Brisbane Motor Museum
Opened in 2023, the Brisbane Motor Museum in Banyo is the perfect place for car lovers to while away the hours.
Entering the ground floor of the museum you will find meeting rooms, cabinet displays and a small motoring library. A car or two may also welcome you, as a teaser for what’s to come upstairs.
Venturing upstairs you will find the main museum, which is spacious, well organised and laid out beautifully to get the most out of the exhibitions. Guests are invited to move about the displays, while viewing the vehicles safely from behind the barriers. Each car is accompanied by an informative sign, which details interesting facts, history and stats about the vehicle.
To provide variety to visitors, exhibitions change every two to four months, with a different theme each time. Categories of displays in the past have included Holden vs Ford, Small and Compact Cars, Icons of the 60s 70s & 80s, and Sports Car Spectacular.
Accessibility at the Brisbane Motor Museum
The Brisbane Motor Museum is largely accessible for all visitors. There is accessible parking near the front door, and other parking spaces underneath the building with direct access to the museum.
The main part of the museum is upstairs, though there is a lift for those requiring it. The museum and other areas within the building are spacious and well laid out making moving about easy, even if you have a mobility aid or wheelchair.
An accessible toilet is available and contains baby changing facilities.

What We Thought of Brisbane Motor Museum
A visit to the Brisbane Motor Museum is a wonderful inter-generational outing. Three generations of our family visited on this occasion and we all benefited from it. I loved watching my dad (who is in his 70’s) reminisce about the cars of eras gone by and telling his grandchildren stories of cars he owned or worked on as a mechanic.
Although Miss 10 doesn’t have a huge interest in cars, she amused herself watching some of the videos and choosing her favourite cars (usually because of their colour or an interesting feature like a huge spoiler or funny sticker).
Mr 12 showed more interest and read all the information and history of the cars on display and proudly sprouted off the most fascinating facts to the rest of the family.
Our visit at the museum ended perfectly at the onsite café which served up delicious sandwiches (the BLT and steak sandwiches were extremely tasty) and of course chilled milkshakes.
While You Are in the Area
Don’t end your day at the museum. Explore the area further and get some fresh air at Nudgee Beach where you can walk, play and relax.
For a spot of education, bushwalking and a peaceful environment visit Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre or head to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre Picnic Grounds for a picnic and walk.
