Clean Up for Hatchlings – Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast Council, in collaboration with TurtleCare Sunshine Coast, ReefCheck Australia, SeaLife Trust, and Kabi Kabi Peoples Aboriginal Corporation, invites the community to come together to help clean up Sunshine Coast beaches in preparation for hatchling turtles.

Event Details:

6:00am – 7:30am: Beach clean-ups at various locations from Coolum to Caloundra. Volunteers can register to join one of 18 clean-up sites along the coast.

8:00am – 10:00am: Thank-you celebration at Coopers Lookout Park, on the south side of Kawana Surf Club, Pacific Blvd, Buddina, QLD 4575. Participants can enjoy:

  • Inspiring guest speakers
  • A free BBQ
  • Children’s activities
  • Engaging displays and much more

How to Participate:

  • Register to attend one of the 18 beach clean-up sites.
  • Register to attend the free BBQ at Kawana.
  • Save the date and join in the fun! 🌊

What to Bring:

  • Sun-safe clothing, including hats and appropriate footwear
  • Reusable items to support a plastic-free event (e.g., water bottles, coffee cups, gloves)

What We Provide:

  • Volunteer site coordinators to help with registration and safety at each beach clean-up site
  • Reusable gloves and clean-up bags
  • Free BBQ, inspiring speakers, engaging displays, and children’s activities at the thank-you celebration

  • North Shore (hut in park at end of North Shore Rd, Twin Waters)
  • Cotton Tree Park (corner of Second Ave & the Esplanade)
  • Mooloolaba Beach (BA 180 Arthur Parkyn Park BBQ shelter)
  • Snorkel – Mooloolah River (La Balsa Park)
  • Buddina (BA 201 – beachside of Pacific Blvd)
  • Coopers Lookout Park (BA 224)
  • Warana 1 (BA 232 – John Hotton Park)
  • Warana 2 (BA 237 – Neisler Park)
  • Bokarina (BA 241 – Satinbird Park)
  • Wurtulla (BA 248 – Dorothy Anderson Park)

When:  Saturday 31st January, 6am to 10am

Where: Various locations along the Sunshine Coast, from Coolum to North Bribie Island.

Cost: Free, registration required.
