Uncover how artificial light reshapes our natural environment at The Night Sky exhibition at Landsborough Museum, running from October 2026 to February 2027. Just an hour north of Brisbane, local families can explore interactive displays on light pollution, dark sky conservation, and simple steps to protect our evening skies.
The Night Sky exhibition at Landsborough Museum
The Night Sky exhibition at Landsborough Museum looks at the important role darkness plays in our lives and the natural world. As artificial light increasingly brightens our nights, the exhibition shows how light pollution affects wildlife, ecosystems and our long connection to the night.
Visitors can learn about the science behind our shrinking night skies, the global Dark Skies movement and the Sunshine Coast’s new Dark Sky Reserve in the hinterland. Interactive displays and local stories encourage people to look up, switch off and be more aware of the dark.
It’s a great reason to make the trip north from Brisbane, with Landsborough about an hour’s drive up the Bruce Highway. Visitors leave with practical ideas for reducing light pollution and protecting the night sky for future generations.
Entry is free, and group bookings are preferred. The exhibition can be viewed during the museum’s opening hours. Visitors with a photo of the Sunshine Coast night sky can share it for a chance to be featured in a community digital display within the exhibition.
