Woodford Street Carnival & Lantern Parade
The Lantern Parade has been lighting up the streets since 2012, while the Street Carnival has been a cherished tradition for even longer. The idea behind the parade was to create a vibrant, creative event that would bring the community together. A lantern parade was the perfect choice, inspired by a similar event held in the area a decade earlier.
The first lantern-making workshop was led by a local artist and involved around 20 school students. Since then, the parade has grown each year.
The festivities kick off with hall entertainment from 3pm to 7pm, alongside roving street performers, buskers, musicians, local school groups showcasing song and dance, martial arts displays, light projections, and more. Families can explore a dedicated family zone with a petting zoo, trackless train rides, and interactive activities. Food trucks, BBQs, market and community stalls, car club displays with vintage Chevys, Hot Rods, and antique tractors, as well as Stanley River Rural Fire and PCYC engagement activities, add to the bustling carnival atmosphere.
The highlight of the evening, the Lantern Parade, begins at 7.15pm, featuring bold, colourful LED lanterns, including butterflies and flowers generously donated by Gavin and the Woodfordia team, previously showcased at the Woodford Folk Festival closing ceremony. This year’s theme, ‘Let Woodford Shine,’ promises to light up the night sky and streets with dazzling displays. 101.5FM, Moreton Bay’s radio station, will broadcast live from the carnival, sharing the magic with the wider community.
Hosted by the Woodford Lions Club and volunteers, the carnival celebrates local talent, community spirit, and festive cheer. Generous sponsorship ensures this year’s event is set to be the most spectacular street carnival and lantern parade yet.
