Brisbane Kids will love exploring the updated playground at Newport Park. With its nautical, pirate and ocean-inspired themes, this playground is located not far from the fully fenced Spinnaker Park playground and the popular Newport Marina.
Newport Park playground
One of the first things you’ll notice about this park is the bright blue playground equipment, which seems to be designed to emulate the high seas, with a mixture of nautical, pirate, and ocean creature themes throughout.
Little adventurers can test their climbing skills on the main playground area, which has climbing nets, a disc walk, rope walkways and two different types of monkey bars. There’s also a tall tower with a large tube slide, a smaller slide and a fire pole.
Right beside the main structure is an accessible carousel, a nest swing and rocker.
On the other side of the larger play area is a smaller playground, which is ideal for younger children. This toddler-friendly section resembles a ship and includes a slide, smaller rope climbing area and two rows of moveable discs on poles for interactive play. There’s also a rocker plus surfboard-themed imaginative play panel in this area.
Two swings can be found nearby, one with a half bucket seat and buckle, and the other with a sling swing for older kids. A stone’s throw away is a basketball half-court (with a netball ring on the back) for anyone wanting to practise their shooting skills.
The focal points of this playground are the bright blue nautical-themed play boats, found in both sections of the park. Brisbane Kids can peer through the circular windows dotted throughout the play structures or check out the view from the top of the climbing tower, complete with its pirate flag on top.
Surrounding the playground is plenty of open grass space, which would be ideal for a kick-about, a game of cricket (there’s a pitch in the centre), or even cross-country training. A pathway encloses the grassy area and loops around the park, making it ideal for confident bike riders or children who are feeling ready to ditch their training wheels.
Imagination Factor at Newport Park
Newport Park is a wonderful place for little pirates to use their imaginations to run wild as they pretend to navigate the high seas. There’s even a soft fall rubber whale figurine they can climb over and explore. With interactive elements, rope play and nautical-themed structures, this space is designed for imaginative boat adventures. One of the play panels even mimics a ship’s window to encourage role play.
Both the senior and junior play areas have ship-like lookout windows where kids can wave to parents and friends from aboard their ‘vessel.’ Cut-out windows in the themed role-play panel allow kids to interact on either side while pretending they are running a surf shop, beach hut or kiosk.
Brisbane Kids can bounce to their hearts’ content on the spring rockers with their pals or spin themselves dizzy on the carousel. Don’t be surprised if they walk away feeling like they’ve just disembarked from a ship afterwards!
Newport Park Accessibility
You can access the Newport Park playground from the car park via a concrete pathway, which continues in a loop around the large, grassed area.
As the path is set back from the roads, it could be a safe place for your child to practise riding bikes, scooters or skates. The pathway also makes access easier for prams and wheelchairs.
The main play area is covered with two shade sails, while the smaller play area is also shaded due to the two roof towers. An accessible carousel is surrounded by soft fall, as is the nest swing and some play panels.
There are also two undercover picnic areas, including one with an electric BBQ.
Accessible toilets are located nearby, with one cubicle including a baby change table.

What We Love About Newport Park
While the nearby Spinnaker Park is a firm family favourite for families, Newport Park is a great alternative if you’re looking for extra space for ball games, bike riding or a quieter experience. The basketball hoop is a fun addition for families wanting to practise their slam dunks together.
We love this playground caters to a range of ages. Older kids can challenge themselves with the climbing equipment, while younger ones have their own dedicated play space, where they can safely explore without feeling left out.
