Nudgee Beach Playground is situated right on Moreton Bay in the picturesque and nostalgic suburb of Nudgee Beach. This spot is popular with people from all over Brisbane, and it’s easy to see why. It has a maintained, laid-back vibe, and plenty of features are here for kids to enjoy.
Nudgee Beach Playground
Two separate playgrounds at Nudgee Beach are located a few hundred metres from each other.
One of them is right by the beach and is unshaded, boasting spectacular bay views and catching the breeze. This playground has quite simple equipment, including swings, a seesaw bouncer, a small climbing fort with a slide and cargo net, and surfboard and bike bouncer elements.
A little to the south is a more extensive playground sheltered with shade sails. This larger playground has a small ship and accessible round-a-bout, swings, slides, a climbing net, a small flying fox, and rockers. There’s a basketball hoop and a concrete pad near this playground.
Both playgrounds have barbecues and covered picnic tables nearby, and there are expanses of lawns perfect for picnics or games. The paths here are wide and flat, making a great spot for kids to practice on their wheels, whether they’re bikes, scooters, skates or skateboards.
Imagination Factor at Nudgee Beach Playground
The large expanses of grassy parklands here combined with the reliable breeze off the water would make this an ideal spot to try flying a kite. There are also several trees in this parkland that look decidedly climbable and children can frequently be seen climbing trees here.
The boat-shaped play structure encourages Brisbane Kids to imagine they’re exploring out on the bay, perhaps imagining they’re off exploring, fending off pirates or fishing. Kids can also be seen racing down the double slide to ‘escape’ from imaginary foes.
At low tide, the beach itself is accessible via stairs or ramps. Grab a stick to write or draw in the sand, look for crabs in the mangrove roots and paddle in the bay. Please note that the sand here is underwater at high tide and is also a bit muddy, but it’s still a lot of fun! Perhaps pack a change of clothes or at least a towel.
Accessibility at Nudgee Beach Playground
The level ground round-a-bout surrounded by soft fall and other elements are definitely designed with accessibility in mind. There are wide flat concrete paths throughout the park, although the actual play areas have bark or wood chip surrounds.
There is a toilet block with accessible facilities near the car park, but it’s quite a distance from the playgrounds (especially far from the shaded one that has the most equipment).
