If you’re a tough mudder fan, chances are your kids have been pleading with you to get in on the action too. Well, their time has come. Check out these obstacle races for kids and families that have a fairly regular presence in Brisbane either annually or every few years. It is worth heading to their respective websites and registering your email because many obstacle courses have early bird rates which can be significantly lower than general ticket sales.
Kiddyhawk
Run by Operation Blackhawk, the Kiddyhawk obstacle mud run has been designed as a mini version of the adult’s Battlefield Challenge held the same weekend. The 2km course provides an exciting and challenging experience for kids 3 – 13 years old. Wave starts are staggered throughout the weekend and you can choose your start time when you book at the link below.
Operation Blackhawk partners with Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) for their events, so set up a fundraising page to raise money for a worthy cause.

Obstacool
With obstacles made from inflatables including the 40-metre-long ‘Big Bopper’, Obstacool promises an epic course for kids. There will be climbing walls, balance beams, pyramids, and rope climbs. The kids may even see some snow. No ‘fun run’ is complete without some bling, so all participants receive a medal after completing the course.
YMCA Rat Race
Coming into its second year, the Rat Race is an event for ages 7+ which raises money for the YMCA School’s Breakfast Program. There’s no better way to support the community while burning energy and having a ball with your friends, workmates, or kids.
Anyone aged 13+ can tackle the long course with teams of 2, 3 or 4. This course covers 8km and has 14 obstacles. Your mission will be to protect and carry an inflatable piece of cheese while pest patrols try to take it from you.
A family race has also been introduced for this years’ event. Teams of 2, 3 or 4 with children aged between 7 – 12 and at least 1 adult can enter. This course is 4km with 6 obstacles.
Kryptonite Challenge
The organisers describe this event as an extreme hardcore military style obstacle course. You will need to be 13+ to participate and you can choose the 7km or 12km course. With over 40 challenging obstacles, you will need to work together with your team mates to make it through.
All participants receive a headband and undies at registration and a medal when they complete the course. Kryptonite Challenge supports the Toowoomba and Ipswich Hospice.
There will be food and live music over the weekend as well as camping facilities available.
