O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyard – family review

O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyard is a surprisingly family-friendly destination either for a day trip picnic or as a stop off on your way to the gorgeous O’reilly’s Mountain Resort.

Picture this: you’re sitting under a silky oak tree by a bubbling brook with a gourmet picnic hamper while sipping on “picnic bubbles”, purchased from the on-site vineyard’s cellar door. Your giggling children are racing paper sail boats in the water and feeding the turtles and fish that regularly surface, hungry for your picnic crumbs.

 

A kid-friendly vineyard

Nestled in the Gold Coast hinterland, this picturesque venue boasts a historic homestead which has been converted into an award winning restaurant and winery, overlooking a stunning vineyard.

Ordinarily, fine dining, wine tasting and wriggly children don’t mix. But at Canungra Valley Vineyards, you can enjoy the fine food in the form of a picnic hamper in the great outdoors, with plenty of room for your little ones to run around.

Canungra Valley Vineyards offers a choice of a picnic hamper or a BBQ hamper which you can cook on the gas barbeques provided. Everything you need – from cutlery and napkins to the picnic rug is provided.

Fine dining in the great outdoors

The picnic hampers begin at $55 for two people and include assorted deli meats, smoked salmon, marinated vegetables and salads, cheese with crackers, fresh baked bread and home-made chutney. Dessert is a scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone.

Children’s picnic hampers are an additional $8.50 per child and consist of ham, cheese, bread and a garden salad with their choice of ice cream for dessert.

The BBQ hampers are $60 for two people and include steak, sausages, chicken, onions, marinated vegetables and salads, cheese with crackers, fresh baked breads and home-made chutney. Again, dessert is a scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone.

The children’s BBQ packs can be added at a cost of $8.50 per child. These include sausages, salad and bread with ice cream for dessert.

Something for parents and kids

Water is provided At O’Reilly’s Cunungra Valley Vineyards but any other drinks – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic will need to be purchased. Complimentary wine tasting is included for the adults, but remember to drink responsibly and designate a driver. Also, ensure that an adult is supervising your children outside while you take part in the wine tasting. Great tasting coffee is also on hand to ensure a spritely drive home.

Just outside the cellar door, you will find a big bucket of outdoor toys for children to borrow – such as totem tennis, cricket sets and footballs.

Please remember that there is no BYO food or beverages allowed on the property. Also, picnic and BBQ hampers must be pre-booked and are available daily between 10am and 3.30pm.
