PLEASE NOTE: UNFORTUNATELY THIS EVENT WILL NOT BE HELD IN 2019. FINGERS CROSSED IT WILL BE BACK IN 2020.
We are so lucky in Brisbane to have amazing weather and outdoor spaces and even luckier to have an annual event to showcase Brisbane’s premier parkland. Parks Alive is a family-friendly event that provides free activities including everything from guest speakers to bush tucker, craft activities, live entertainment, guided walks, markets and so much more over a weekend in August.
Parks Alive 2018 Highlights
Roma Street Parkland will come alive with an amazing range of free, fun and informative family friendly events over the entire weekend of the Parks Alive event. Gardening workshops, guest speakers, bush tucker walks, yoga, bee keeping talks and guided walks will inform the older generations, while the younger members of the family have not been forgotten with lots of activities and entertainment on offer. Just for the kids there will be art and craft workshops all day plus train rides and lots of beautiful green space, playgrounds and gardens to explore and burn off energy.
Headlining this year’s Parks Alive program will be a host of local and national talent including Costa Georgiadis, Jerry Coleby-Williams, Indira Naidoo and Cameron Matthews.
Other lifestyle and wellness experts will also contribute to the event presenting yoga classes and demonstrations regarding medicinal plants, permaculture, fermentation and the power of outdoor play. Bee Keeping presentations, guided plant photography, Bush Tucker Walks and tea appreciation are also on the weekend program.
Throughout the day live music will be playing to set the mood in the Parkland and food stalls will be onsite to satisfy the whole family’s hunger with a delicious range of food from Brisbane’s best. Plus Giant Games, Lifestyle Markets and the Plant Clinic where all your plant and flower questions will be answered will all be situated in the heart of Roma Street Parkland, on the Celebration Lawn.
Celebration Lawn will also be the destination where creative energy will flow with pinwheel and kite making just for Brisbane Kids. For kids who love science and art, A Veggie Patch from Scratch will be worth checking out as the talented Megan Forward teaches charcoal drawing, examining and dissected fruit and vegetables with a magnifying glass, weaving, simple plant science, sustainability and environmental awareness, plus watercolour painting using vegetables, fruits and flowers.
And if you have little Brisbane Kids, make sure you don’t miss the Parkland Explorer, an amazing way to see the Parkland while on a train ride for only a gold coin donation.
Please note: All Parks Alive walks are free-ticketed and spaces are limited. To secure your spot, head to The Hub one hour prior to each scheduled walk. Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Also it is recommended that you bring along a gold coin donation for the tea appreciation classes with all money raised going towards the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
