Camping in Pottsville
We are a part of a group of eight to ten families who camp approximately every 8 weeks, visiting Pottsville South Holiday Park twice a year. It is certainly one of our favourites.
It takes us around 1 1/2 hours to drive from Brisbane to Pottsville South, travelling on the Pacific Motorway. We turn off at Chinderah and continue on past Cabarita, Hastings Point and then arrive in Pottsville. There are two camping grounds in Pottsville, so be sure to go past the first one before you reach Pottsville South Holiday Park.
The group of sites we reserve are less than 30 metres from the ‘beach’ at low tide. As the beach is actually on the estuary, the water is very calm and shallow, which is perfect for ALL ages and great for families. We usually set up the camp and all the kids (around 20 all together) go straight down to the water for a swim, kayak or canoe. We stay on sites that are all powered, with a great camp kitchen and bathroom amenities very close by.
The surf beach is a 5 to 10 minute walk in either direction from the holiday park; however, it is an unpatrolled area. At the northern end beach, where the calm water meets the open seas, you will find many rock pools to play in and to discover the sea life that lives there—the kids love it! On our last visit, we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a beautiful wedding by the water.
Throughout our stay, and when the kids are not swimming, they are fishing, riding their bikes and scooters on the road around the park (which is a 10km/hour zone), and playing beach volleyball or even a bit of basketball.
There are several shops very close to Pottsville South Holiday Park, within a 5 minute walk, with anything and everything you may have forgotten. Sometimes, we even leave our food shopping until we have set up camp.
We all have a very relaxing, fun time every time we stay at Pottsville South Holiday Park.
