Keeping the kids occupied and entertained during the school holidays is always a battle, but with school holiday camps the hard work is done for you. Kids love school holiday camps because they’re exciting and fun, they get to socialise with others of the same age and make loads of new friends. For parents, there’s also the bonus of knowing your child or children are taking part in motivational activities, learning new skills and being kept stimulated in a positive environment, all while being cared for and supervised by professionals.
When it comes to school holiday camps for Brisbane Kids, we are really spoilt for choice. There are camps to suit all ages, interests and budgets. We take a look at some of the main options out there for your Brisbane Kids!
Sports camps
Whether you child has a special interest in one particular sport or wants to have fun playing a range of fun sports over the school holidays, there are lots of camp options available. There are camps in and around Brisbane for practising and developing skills in a whole range of sports, including cricket, football, golf, horse riding, swimming, tennis and many more.
For a cool alternative, some swimming centres, such as Ferny Hills Swimming Pool offer holiday programs with plenty of water action, or Victoria Park Golf Complex’s school holiday golf camps for kids that are brilliant for boys and girls who are looking to meet new friends, learn and develop their golfing skills and take part in exciting competitions and challenges.
Farm camps
Several farm stays around Brisbane offer school holiday camps, such as Gummies Bush Camps. As a working farm set between Beaudesert, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, a school holiday camp at Gummies gives kids a hands-on education into real farming, as well as experiencing fun activities such as orienteering, adventure games and camp fires.
Outdoor activity camps
There are several outdoor activity camps with programmes during the school holidays for kids who love adventure. The Queensland Government runs school holiday programmes at their Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast Recreation Centres, with a range of activities that can include anything from Alpine rescue and archery to high rope courses and learning to surf. PGL Camp Kindilan‘s Holiday Camp Programme in Redland Bay has been specially designed for 8-14 year olds. It offers a chance to get them off the couch, off their screens and into the outdoors to create some great memories and meet new friends during their summer break!
Outward Bound has school holiday camps offering outdoor adventure activities and courses. While their closest location is currently Wollumbin National Park, it is less than 2 hours’ drive from Brisbane CBD.
STEM Camps
The school holidays are the perfect time for kids to immerse themselves in hobbies that aren’t always on offer at school. STEM camps such as Code Camp’s School Holiday Program can offer kids the opportunity to try out designing, coding, problem solving and storytelling by using technology to create games, websites, music, videos and more.
YMCA Vacation Care
As part of the YMCA’s Outside School Hours Care (OSHC), YMCA centres all round Brisbane offer vacation care programmes, which include activities, trips and visitors. The activities range from music and drama to creative and culinary experiences, as well as indoor and outdoor events.
