PLEASE NOTE THE STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL WILL UNFORTUNATELY NOT GO AHEAD IN 2019.
See below for highlights of the 2018 Strawberry Festival event, which will give you a taste of what to expect in 2019!
There are not a lot of events around Brisbane that are much sweeter than the annual Strawberry Festival. The Festival, dedicated to the delicious strawberry, is a great day out for the whole family and held in August every year- when the strawberry is ripe for picking and at it’s best!
Strawberry Festival August 2018 Highlights
Did you know strawberries are one of the biggest farming industries in Queensland and that 40% of Queensland strawberries come from the Moreton Bay Region? Well the Sandstone Point Hotel knew this all too well and decided it was reason to celebrate the strawberry, giving the delicious fruit a celebration in its honour. Now in it’s third year, the Strawberry Festival showcases the fruit in its many forms in a family friendly event that is full of fun, excitement, delicious food and the colour red.
As you can imagine there are lots of strawberry stalls at the Festival selling everything strawberry in colour, shape and taste! Strawberry ice-cream, strawberry milkshakes, chocolate covered strawberries, scones with strawberry jam, strawberry desserts and so much more are all on the menu. For the strawberry purest, you can buy punnets of fresh strawberries, picked only hours ago from the strawberry patch at the local farms. For those wanting to take something home with them from the Festival, local market stall holders will be there selling not only punnets of strawberries but also a great range of strawberry jams and sauces, you can even take home a strawberry t-shirt!
Don’t worry, the big kids have not been forgotten with a special drinks section called the The Strawberry Patch Bar returning again this year, which is an exclusive addition to the festival that specialises in an all strawberries drinks menu including cocktails based on strawberries and mixed just for this special occasion.
For those in the family who do not like strawberries, never fear as there are selected food trucks and the Sandstone Point Hotel also have a great menu so nobody will go hungry and there is lots of great entertainment to keep every happy.
After consuming as many strawberries as possible in the sunshine, everyone will look up to the sky to see an explosion of colour (we are predicting lots of red) at the fireworks finale which will close the Strawberry Festival for 2018 at 8pm.
All of this fun is taking place at the gorgeous Sandstone Point Hotel in Bribie Island, overlooking the Pumicestone Passage and Bribie Island. With lots of grassy areas surrounding the Hotel, make sure you remember to pack a picnic blanket so you can enjoy the Festival and your strawberries in comfort.
The Strawberry Festival – The Entertainment
Strawberries aside, there will be lots of great entertainment for the whole family at this year’s Strawberry Festival.
Last year for the first time, the Sandstone Point Hotel ramped up the kids live entertainment with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles appearing live on stage in their very own show. The heroes in a half shell, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michaelangelo, had everyone screaming cowabunga as they pulled out all their moves and defeated evil in a show that entertained all the Brisbane Kids. Plus there was live music throughout the day for all ages to enjoy.
In 2018, Paw Patrol will be performing their own live stage show! So expect to see Chase, Ryder, Marshall and all their friends from Adventure Bay as they once again prove that “no job is too big, no pup is too small,” .
If your Brisbane Kids thinks they are the strawberry eating king or queen, sign them up for the strawberry eating competition – the only prerequisite is that they love strawberries and are able to eat them off a plate without their hands! This is fun not only to participate in but to watch from the crowd and see who takes out the strawberry eating title for 2018!
Away from the main stage, kids rides, market stalls and games will be scattered throughout the Festival site for everyone to enjoy.
