Vibrant Street Art Welcomes You

Before The Nurso opened last November, the site had stood vacant for more than ten years. The team embraced the industrial vibe by commissioning local artists to create unique works of art throughout the property.

Play ‘spotto’ with the kids as you walk around and discover different designs throughout the property. If you have a budding Frida (or Banksy!) on your hands, they’ll be in seventh heaven.

Take Original Artwork, Pots & Gifts Home

When you first enter The Nurso you’ll be greeted by a large indoor space featuring a range of one-of-a-kind artworks, vibrant pots to match any decor and garden accessories. There are even designer collars and leads for your pooch! After some retail therapy treat yourself and the kiddos to beverages at the coffee shack.

Grab a Coffee While the Kids Play

On weekends the adorable coffee shack serves up full breakfasts– several options with a Vietnamese flair. Tuck into a Banh mi or more traditional bacon and eggs. There are also pastries available. Parents can enjoy an iced latte while the kids explore the dedicated children’s area overlooking the picnic tables.

Kid’s Play Space

The chill-out zone is perfect for Brisbane Kids under eight years old. There’s a cubby house, chalk to draw with, diggers and various toys.

Don’t be surprised if you see toddler whizz by on The Nurso’s three-wheeler trikes that kids are welcome to ride around the property.

Bring Your Fur Babies Too

Dogs are welcome throughout the property. Keep your eyes peeled for Dusty, The Nurso’s adorable border collie. You might find him running around in the off-leash dog area in the back of the centre.

Pigs, Chickens and Goats — Oh My!

The most recent Nurso residents are sure to delight children of all ages. Follow the signs that say “The Garden” to the back of the property. You’ll be greeted by a menagerie of animals in pens (fyi no petting). From baby goats, piglets, chickens, and sheep- the kids will feel like they’ve temporarily left the city for hog heaven.

A Huge Tree to Climb

This tree will make your little explorers feel like they’re in the middle of the jungle. With huge branches to climb, this tree surely dates back to the original garden centre that was built here more than 50 years ago. This tree is simply calling out for kids to climb. The shady area is also the perfect spot for picnics in the back garden on those hot Brisbane afternoons.

Keep Your Eyes Peeled for Fish Too

Hidden on the side of The Nurso is a large fish pond with huge fish swimming inside.

Hint: A frog keeps an eye on the fish at all times.

Children’s Creative Workshops

Also, keep your eyes peeled on The Nurso’s social channels for school holiday workshops and in term workshops. It’s the perfect space to inspire children to hone their gardening and artistic skills. From film workshops, artwork and messy play for the younger set, there’s something for everyone in this incredible space.
