Expansive river views and a boat shaped play structure make Vic Lucas Park an especially attractive for little pirates and families searching for a lovely riverside picnic location.
Vic Lucas Park playground
Bulimba’s Vic Lucas Park is located right on the bend of the Brisbane River, offering a beautiful vantage point for some park fun. The playground features a pirate theme, with a large ship-shaped structure comprised of climbing walls and nets, steering wheels, portholes and a slide.
There are also 2 sets of swings, each featuring a belt swing and a toddler swing. There are spring rockers and large and small spinners here too. For older Brisbane Kids, there’s a basketball half-court. Several paths criss-cross the park, making it perfect for scooter or bike riding.
The riverside location does require you to keep a close eye on roaming young kids, however the view and the breeze along this tranquil stretch of the river is well worth it. Vic Lucas Park has a picnic shelter with two tables, a couple of unsheltered tables and a barbeque. There is also bench seating adjacent to the playground.
Imagination Factor
With the expansive river views at Vic Lucas Park, many games can be had spotting the boats sail past. The pirate themed playground especially the ship invite Brisbane Kids to use their imagination to play – is it a great vantage point for spotting the enemy approaching, or are you using it as a fishing vessel? Perhaps you’re scrubbing the decks, or navigating or working in the galley? The options here are many. The flat grassy spaces here are perfect for kids who like to run.
Accessibility
Vic Lucas Park has modern wheelchair accessible toilet facilities. There are several concrete pathways throughout the park that are flat and could all be easily navigated with a pram or wheelchair. The playground is unfenced and there is no fencing along the river, so vigilance with exploring Brisbane Kids is advised. The playground is unsheltered, though large eucalypts shade the area through much of the day.
Vic Lucas Park features
Vic Lucas Park is situated on a quiet bend of the Brisbane River across from Breakfast Creek. It’s in a tranquil spot and you won’t realise how close to the city you are with the expanse of the Bulimba Golf Course on one side and the river on the other. This park is ideally located to catch summer breezes however shade is limited to the mature trees so perhaps avoid midday visits and pack the sunscreen and a picnic blanket so you can set up camp wherever the shade falls that day.
