With summer temperatures set to soar alongside the current cost-of-living prices, our team at Brisbane Kids were excited to hear that the much anticipated $2 Summer Dips council initiative is being repeated in 2024.
Starting on December 1st 2024, the program promises to bring some cooling relief – and savings – to Brisbane families during the scorching summer months that lie ahead. If you haven’t heard about it, we have unpacked what this means below and detail the reasons why Brisbane kids will love this summer.
What is the $2 Summer Dips Initiative?
The $2 Summer Dips initiative is part of a broader set of Brisbane Budget cost-of-living measures designed to enhance the quality of life for residents. With weather forecasts predicting a particularly dry summer ahead of us, and with the cost-of-living crisis bearing heavily on so many of our shoulders, the program aims to provide some relief from both issues by reducing the cost we pay for entry to council pools this summer.
How does the $2 Summer Dips Initiative Work?
Running from December 1st 2024 to February 28th 2025, families will be able to swim at their local pool for no more than $2 entry per person, regardless of their age. Therefore, it doesn’t matter if you are an adult doing laps or a child playing in the pool or on the slides, the flat rate for entry for each family member remains the same.
With council agreeing to pay the pools the difference in cost between what we pay and what would normally be charged, the savings made during this time would not go unnoticed.
So, what does this mean for Brisbane families?
For many Brisbane families who don’t have a backyard pool, the local council swimming pool is a haven for young children during the hotter months. Not only is it an easy way for them to escape the heat, but it is also the perfect way to keep children active, healthy, and entertained. Unfortunately, entry costs at near $7 an adult and $4 a child can add up and for many families the cost of visiting the pool means trips there as a family need to be limited.
The idea of the $2 Summer Dip Initiative is that days at the local council pool for families this summer will become more affordable and, hopefully, more frequent. For a family of four, this could mean a daily trip that used to cost them over $20 coming down to less than $10. If they plan to visit the pool frequently over the summer, this cost saving could be significant.
Individuals accompanying a person with a disability who requires attendant care support will continue to enjoy free entry.
This offer is open only for Brisbane City Council pools, but you don’t need to be a Brisbane City Council resident to benefit! How good is that?!
With so many prices skyrocketing around us now, we love the fact that Brisbane kids will be able to continue to spend their summer days in the pool, without breaking the bank. Discover a Brisbane City Council Pool near you on the Brisbane City Council website.

I think the $2 swim should be the normal price to get into the pool why on earth we are paying almost $10 to get into a pool is ridiculous

Fingers crossed the offer is extended Kaila! BCC pools doubled their entries over summer with this promotion, so it would be great to see more families being able to make use of it longer-term.
