Are you looking for a cheap, fun and easy Christmas craft to do with your Brisbane kids? If so, why not get creative and make some of these seriously sweet DIY Paper Christmas Baubles? A colourful and festive decoration for your tree or house, these paper baubles are a simple craft you can all do together. Requiring only a few items and super easy for everyone to make, below are the simple steps and instructions on how to create your very own paper Christmas baubles with the kids this year.
What you need to make your DIY Paper Christmas Baubles
To make your DIY paper Christmas baubles you will need:
- Colour or patterned paper or card
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Hot glue gun
- Ribbon
- Decorative items (optional)
Note: We have chosen to use patterned origami paper for our baubles in festive red and green tones. You can also use any coloured card or paper you would like or even get the kids to paint and add glitter or stickers to sheets of paper before you start.
How to make your DIY Paper Christmas Baubles
Step 1
Turn your card / paper over and rule out strips to cut. You can choose the size and amount but we find that strips of 1cm wide by 20cm in length make a perfect size Christmas bauble when assembled. Rule out enough for 8 strips.
Step 2
Cut out your 8 strips of paper.
Step 3
On the back of each strip draw a small dot at the half-way (10cm) mark. This will be useful when lining them up easily when they get layered up in the next step!
Step 4
Using the hot glue gun, make a small dot of glue at the centre of one of them and then gentle lie another strip on top at the opposite angle. Use the dots to help centre each strip on top. Continue to do this until all strips are glued together at the centre (see below).
Step 5
Using the glue gun, place one dot of hot glue at the end of one strip and bring it together to form a ring. Do one first and then bring up the two ends of another next strip to meet and join up with the first ring. Continue doing this until you have a created a ball with all strips glued up together as one joined bauble.
This is how the ball should look when all of the strips have been glued up together.
Step 6
Finally cut out a small length of ribbon and glue the two ends to the top of the bauble.
Hint: We found that by putting a large dot of hot glue on top of the bauble, laying the two ends of the ribbon on to this and then adding another dob of glue on top of them meant that within 15 seconds of holding it in this position the ribbon was secured fast.
And there you have it! Your very own paper Christmas baubles. Our kids loved making these and the craft options of size, pattern and ways to decorate these individually (glitter, paint, stickers etc) are almost endless!
