An exceptional park has recently opened in Greenbank. Heartland Central Park is a community hub at the core of the Covella neighbourhood. This impressive offering has considered the needs of the whole family. Toddlers, big kids, ball players and bike riders each have awesome options for play at this location.
Heartland Central Park Playground
When you approach Heartland Central Park, the height of the main fort is striking. This is not your average slippery dip! Two immense tunnel slides connect to a lofty structure. Weave and climb to the summit via ropes and overlapping layers. At the top, take a moment to enjoy the view or just hurtle down the giant tunnel slides.
The toddler play area also has an incredible fort structure for little Brisbane Kids. There are many options to climb, play and slide, positioned low to the ground. Little ones can explore rope nets, a tunnel, ladders, rock climbing footholds, a net bridge and two slides, all of which as sized appropriately for young children. Under the fort is a simple shop window and a place to pretend they are sailing a boat.
The playground also features a basketball half-court, a green kick-about space, a roundabout and swings. Surrounding the playground are concrete paths and some covered picnic tables.
Heartland Central Park features a small concrete pump track. A pump track is a looped circuit with several rollers and berms (hills and corners). Pump tracks are designed to be ridden without pushing or peddling.
While predominately intended for bikes, pump tracks can be used with scooters, rollerblades, skateboards and even wheelchairs!
At this track, the small undulations make the course accessible to younger children if they approach the obstacles slowly while offering a more significant challenge for older, more confident kids moving at a faster pace.
Unfortunately there are NO toilets at this playground. These sometimes come later, so please speak with your local council to see what they can do.
Imagination Factor at Heartland Central Park
With so many options to explore, this space allows a child’s imagination to run free. Children can be sporting heroes, playing basketball or soccer. Bigger kids would have a blast exploring the tall play fort in an epic game of tag. They could imagine they are scaling a giant tree, or perhaps the top level could be a lofty secret spy hideout.
Accessibility at Heartland Central Park
A ramp provides access to the park, and concrete pathways connect several play areas, but the bark base may be challenging for individuals with limited mobility.
In the toddler section, the shop window and boat bow may be accessible from a wheelchair. Furthermore, the roundabout is level with the ground, there is a basket swing and thrill-seeking wheelchair users can attempt the pump track (with extra care).
Unfortunately there are no toilets at this venue.

What We Thought of Heartland Central Park
We found Heartland Central Park to be an absolute gem! This is a truly community-focused location offering something for everyone in the family.
Mr 4 1/2 particularly loved testing himself on the pump track, happily cutting laps on his 3-wheeled scooter. As the landscaping here matures, the location will only become more enticing. In the meantime, it’s best to bring a hat as the shade sails only cover part of the park.
