With two separate play areas, lots of grass, a river view and toilets, JJ Smith Park is a great spot for playing and picnicking with Brisbane Kids.
JJ Smith Park
Adjacent to the Logan Motorway, JJ Smith Park is an open waterfront park offering two distinct playgrounds for different age groups, located about 200m apart. Shade sails cover both play areas, ensuring children are protected from the sun while playing.
The first playground is situated close to the small car park. With a seaside theme, it is well suited to toddlers and younger children. There are two infant swings, two rockers, and a mighty lizard basking in the sun amongst the sand. The compact climbing fort features a bright red, fun, twisty slide.
The second playground is ideal for those who enjoy climbing, as there are numerous obstacles to ascend and dangle from. The larger fort is even named The Summit! Before reaching the top platform, one can navigate hanging rings, wobbly hose-covered-chain obstacles, ladders, and a chain net.
A flying fox, a sit-on digging excavator, and a spinning rope pyramid are at the centre of this play area. Alongside this is another play fort with steps, a bridge and a slide. There is a cafe and shop window for imaginative play on the ground level.
The park has a basketball half-court for older Brisbane Kids and teens. Circling the park is a flat concrete bike path. The wetlands area and viewing deck provide many bird-watching opportunities and wildlife spotting.
There are several sheltered picnic tables in JJ Smith Park, but if you prefer something more laid back, try one of the sun lounges. Wood-fuelled barbeques will heat up your picnic lunch when the children get hungry.
Imagination Factor at JJ Smith Park
Your Brisbane Kid’s inner crocodile hunter can shine as they creep along the edge of the wetlands searching for wildlife. The nautical and mountain-themed play equipment will turn even your littlest ones into explorers.
Accessibility at JJ Smith Park
Accessible toilet facilities are provided at JJ Smith Park. There are some great flat concrete paths around the outside of the park, so navigating with a wheelchair would be possible.
The playground is unfenced, and the water is not too far away, so it’s best to keep a close eye on adventurous Brisbane Kids near the wetlands.
