  • AboutBrisbane Kids Creative was created by me! Ngaire Stirling. I wont pretend to talk in the third person about myself, instead let me tell you a bit about me and how 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came about. At the time the domain name 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for purchase I was a stay at home mum in the middle of a degree centred around journalism and PR. a couple of years earlier I had been contemplating returning to my previous career in marketing management and for a while I even tried. 3 months into a new role and it was clear that I had no passion for my old life and to make the decision to quit easier, my almost 2 year old at the time was not coping with childcare. So, as a family we made the decision for me to return to becoming a stay at home mum. About 1 years later or so.. 110.232.142.129/~brisba22 came up for sale. My friends had often commented on my ability to know exactly what was happening in Brisbane for kids. I had my son enrolled in some awesome activities and we often visited some great destinations. I loved finding fun things for us to doโ€ฆ

Kholo Gardens in Muirlea

Last updated: September 12, 2024
Child walking on a trail in the rainforest at Kholo Gardens.

Kholo Gardens is a hidden gem known as one of the most inviting parks in Ipswich. This historic site covers nearly 40 hectares and now features scenic walking tracks which weave around creeks and sub-tropical rainforests.

Kholo Gardens

Located just seven kilometres from the Ipswich CBD, Kholo Gardens is a peaceful place to explore, with its greenery, lily pond, walking trails, and open spaces. The gardens are home to giant Kauri trees and Hoop Pines planted by early settlers, a variety of birdlife, an assortment of plants, and scenic views of the Brisbane River. It’s a pleasant spot for a family outing.

The Tree Fern Lane walking trail is a subtropical paradise. It offers a 170m walk beside a babbling stream under a natural rainforest canopy. It is a very gentle walk. The more energetic can try the steeper hike to the Bush Tucker Trail to see a collection of native edible plants.

The site, formerly a water pumping station, also features a historic well and a charming old church relocated here in 1990 from Redbank. Nearby, a beautifully restored Queenslander adds to the charm of the area, making it a popular venue for weddings and functions.

In addition, the gardens provide amenities such as barbecues, picnic tables, and public toilets.

Expansive grassy areas offer ample space for activities such as playing chasing games or kicking a ball. Despite being just 7km from the heart of Ipswich, Kholo Gardens provides a true escape from city life.

Several short walking trails meander through Kholo Gardens. Plenty of signs and maps provide directions. Although short, many of the trails are only paved partway. Some tracks become uneven, with inclines that would not be suitable for prams, wheelchairs, or mobility aids. Good walking shoes are recommended.

What We Thought of Kholo Gardens

Trail surrounded by trees at Kholo Gardens.

Our visit to Kholo Gardens was a breath of fresh air. The short walking tracks were great to explore, even though they were slightly steeper and more rugged in places than we were expecting. Ensure you are wearing appropriate walking shoes.

Exploring the serene Tree Fern Lane was our favourite walk. These gardens are a lovely place for a family BBQ.
